Both of those trades are horrendous for the Avs. Not to mention cap circumvention

Girard isn't the sort of player the Jackets need.

Both of these are awful. Good GMs don’t trade young top 4 defensemen for 2 2nds.

And one year of $4M cap space isn’t worth a 2nd and a roster player on an ELC. Also EJ would not be allowed to sign with the Avs.

For 2 seconds? CBJ takes that and runs. Girard is better than every defenseman on that roster not named Werenski. Boqvist is pretty good too but hasn’t played the type of minutes Girard does.

Would rather keep Gavrikov on the team and get another RD.

I don’t think the league would approve it. The Caps did something similar with Brooks Orpik, but he didn’t have any trade protection. If the Avs tried to pull that move with EJ, it would get a bit dicey because he has an NMC in place today (albeit a pretty weak one).

I know the league did an investigation into Orpik and cleared the Caps eventually but I think there are some guidelines around how the buyout and re-signing can’t be premeditated. So I should revise my comment and say “might not be able to re-sign EJ”

as long as the league can't prove it was premeditated theres nothing they can do about it.

At the rate he’s going now, EJ might get a few dozen Bud Lights deep and spill the beans on Instagram live

I'd put him about the same as Gavrikov, myself. I saw a lot of Girard during his time with the Preds and i'm a fan, but we just don't need more LD. Chychrun gets entertained here now and again, but that's more out of hope that he can play RD despite being a leftie.

And 59 games for Shawnigan after he was drafted, whereupon I started paying closer attention. Had a very impressive debut in Milwaukee too.

isn't girard leaning more on the offensive side of defenseman and not as physical? (please correct me if i'm wrong, nonbiasly) ya know what almost the entire Jackets D core consists of that was bottom 5 defense? Rather just keep what we have than get someone for 5 mill extended that won't fix their defense issue.

And the Avs entire D corp is offensive minded and they just won the cup. A team like CBJ probably should be focused on getting good defensemen as a whole.

I don't think Manson or either Johnson are offensive first guys
