Ore would have to be added on the wings side lol

You're short of waiver exempt defenders so we could throw in McIsaac, if that helps.

Ullmark would be a good fit for the Caps but his NMC might be a problem

Quoting: ON3M4N
Don't know how available Ullmark is (at least this season) with a NMC. Next off-season he goes to a NTC and Swayman will need a new deal, so I imagine that's when Boston would be looking to trade Ullmark.

Ullmark signed in Boston thinking he’d be the starting goalie on a cup contender coached by Bruce Cassidy. Now he’s backing up Swayman, the Bruins have been so devastated by injuries that they seem to be debating a rebuild, and Cassidy’s out. Normally I’d say expecting a guy to waive his NMC one year into a new deal is nuts, but I think Ullmark’s in such a unique situation that it’s a real possibility.

Lapierre + Rybinsky + 2nd would be an immediate yes from me.

Thats a whole lot for a guy who has now had three straight years of at or below replacement level play while getting middle six minutes. His draft pedigree means that he still has upside, but its the kind you take a mid round pick flyer on, not give up multiple premium assets.

1. He's not backing up Swayman and both guys started 39 games last year for Boston.

2. Boston isn't debating a rebuild. Bergeron wouldn't be coming back if the teams plan was to rebuild. They have Marchand, Hall, Pastrnak, DeBrusk, McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo, Swayman (to name a few) all under contract. They're still very much a playoff team

3. Ullmark didn't sign in Boston because of Cassidy, he signed there because of the team they had in front of him.

They might not be rebuilding but I’d be hesitant to pencil them in to the playoffs. March mcavoy and berg all gonna miss substantial chunks of season and it seems like NJD will make a stronger push if they figure out goaltending plus isles wouldn’t be surprising to see a bounce back.

Marchand & McAvoy are due back late Nov to early December. I doubt they miss even 1/4 of the season. Bergeron isn't expected to miss any time next season, so I'm not sure where that is coming from. Boston can essentially return the same line-up that had this past season and that team put up 107 points. That same team was tied for the 8th most wins in the NHL this past season. Could NJD get better? sure, but they'd need to see nearly a 60% increase in points just to land a tie for what was the final WC spots in the East this year. NYI are bringing in a new coach obviously and I'm curious to see how they do without the defensive minded Trotz system.

I'm sorry but this is one goofy comment. Offensively anemic Lias Anderson got a 2nd from LA. Kotkaniemi, who Zadina has outproduced, got a 1st for Montreal and then Carolina signed him to that stupid contract. Zadina isn't worth a haul but a mid round pick? Give me a break.

I thought Bergeron had elbow or shoulder surgery and was gonna miss first part of season but maybe I misread that. Either way agree that Boston should be favored ahead of those teams but the bottom of the conference seems set to improve and I wouldn’t be surprised with a bit of regression on bostons end. Of course if they go out and find a true 2C and a couple other pieces maybe that regression doesn’t happen.

1) Pre-ASB Ullmark had 24 GP to Swayman’s 17. Post-ASB those numbers were flipped, 24 for Swayman and 17 to Ullmark. Then in the playoffs Ullmark had two bad games and they went with Swayman the rest of the way. It’s clear which way the wind is blowing. Would you honestly say you expect Ullmark to get more starts than Swayman next season?

2) Bergeron isn’t back yet and there were rumors they’d consider offers for Pastrnak. It’s clearly within the realm of possibility. And there’s a difference between a guy getting back in the lineup and a guy getting back to 100%. The Caps certainly felt that this year when Backstrom finally returned from rehabbing his hip and was a shell of his former self. No guarantee that Marchand and McAvoy get back right at the 6 month mark and pick up right where they left off last year.

3) He obviously didn’t sign solely because of Cassidy, but the coach is clearly a factor when a guy’s good enough to have some choice in where he goes.

And how have those moves worked out??? I agree it doesn't make sense for the red wings to move zadina for only a third or fourth, but that is what a team should be giving up for someone like him. It is extremely probable that he does not improve at all and spending a second round pick let alone the caps' most premium future asset on a bad bottom 6 winger is not a good idea. It would be an absolute home run if he followed the Brett Connolly career path and ended up as a productive scoring 3w on a cup team. The caps signed him for league min after he wasn't given a QO, they didn't give up Vrana or whatever their top prospect at the time was.

That’s a great point. High draft pick who didn’t really work out in the beginning
