PLD Trade

Description
I think the value on PLD is fair. Cuylle very underrated prospect had 80pts in 59gp in the OHL this season, 31pts in 25 playoff games too as the captain of Windsor. Could swap in Jones for Nils depending on who the Jets like more but I don't see the Rangers moving Schneider anytime soon. There's also no 7th defenseman here. Rangers are in major cap trouble.

4 Late 1st/2nd Rd picks isn't enough for a player who had 60 pts last year and is going to walk? Look at what the Wild just got for Fiala

The Wild move is an example of a team up against the cap not being able to afford a player they would like to keep and trying to get the best return possible. 19OA + Faber who is an A prospect is pretty good considering they had no leverage.

For PLD, they have 2 more years of control with him, can fit him under their cap and its also reported they want to try and keep him around. The leverage certainly doesn't favour you at this stage and the proposal lacks the quality they would seek in any trade.

By looking what Wild got for Fiala, against what Fiala was worth over here, this PLD package may be it.

no not even close way differernt scenerio's winnipeg has the cap to sign PLD and has better leverage then minnesota who couldn't sign fiala.

their would need to be an A tier prospect or a solid young NHL player involved also Dubois is a Center and 2 years young as fiala will be 26 soon. so both his age and position hold more value.

    Chytil+Cuylle+ Lundkvist+ 23 1st+ 24 3rd would probably be the starting point for dubois.

Jets have no leverage, since he said he won't extend with them. Jets have to trade him right now, when his value is high.

Most likely, it will be something in between those two packages.

But it means Jest are blowing it up.

he is an RFA for 2 more years so they could actually just give him is qualifying offer 2 years in a row, if they do that and somewhat try's to OS him then winnipeg can just match and then they get him for longer.

Winnipeg is still in a very safe spot with Dubois. He also said he wouldn't extend long term not that he wouldn't extend at all so don't make stuff up do actual research

Noone is going to offer sheet PLD for 2x1st, 1x2nd, 1x3rd range. He is not worth that much assets and 8,4mil+ cap hit on top of that, especially when Jets can just match it.

If they put him on QO, they are losing a lot of value. They are not good right now, they are in the middle of the pack. If they are about to lose their top C in year or two, they are screwed, and better be starting this rebuild right away.

They have to have extension signed, so they can build around him. Screwing around with press statements are only going to hurt the Jets in the long run.

Ok, if we are going by the Fiala deal, let’s make a proper comparison. Schneider/23’1st for PLD

Yea, that’s not a proper comparison. Schneider was 1st round pick and made it tot he NHL in his first pro year. Faber was a mid second round pick. Matthew Robertson is the exact comparison to Faber. Drafted a year before at basically the same spot.

You legit just gave the Jets more for Copp as a rental. Why would the jets take less when they can just keep him and sell him as a rental for the same price in 1.5 yrs?

I went through this yesterday. Faber decided to go the college route to get an education. If he was in the CHL, he on the Reign the year before last and probably on the Kings last year. He’s a blue chipper who has exceeded expectations and his value shouldn’t be discounted because of the path he took.

While the trade posted doesn’t go through. Faber is not even close to an A prospect. AT MOST he’s a b prospect. And that’s on a scale where Lundkvist is an A- prospect.

True A prospects are those that play top pairing. Faber is a 4-6 defenseman in the nhl.

Yes WPG wants to keep him around, but he doesn’t want to stay. The comparison to what Fiala got is actually fair as Fiala has out produced PLD the past 4 years. While this is weighted in fiala a way, PLD is a center so it evens back out. Maybe an additional 2nd or 3rd because PLD is a year or two younger. While Minnesota was up against the cap, teams still had to compete to get fiala. Ppl know pld doesn’t want to be in wpg, similar impact on the eventual trade.

The ultimate thing is will PLD extend with the team trading for him? If he does, he will get in between fiala and eichel (but most likely closer to fiala)

jack eichel lol. Tuch is worth more then Chytil+Lundkvist+ 3rd
krebs is a better prospect then lundvist
the 1sts cancel each other out.

yes Eichel was better pre trade the Dubois but....
-PLD is willing to resign just not long term / Eichel was begging for 2 years to be traded
-PLD is healthy and doesn't have any major injury concerns / Eichel had a surgery that no athlete has ever done
-PLD will have a much cheaper AAV / Eichel,10 mill not often do guys like that get moved just due to the amount of cap the other team needs to have to acquire that big of a contract

While I can see your point of view, with PLD wanting out, you have to look at what Eichel ultimately got. Not saying they are worth the same but Eichel came with a much higher cap hit, a potentially unknown injury and outcome (at the time) and less team control.

With regards to Fiala, I feel PLD could also have multiple suitors which will play into any negotiations and I feel Faber is top 4 calibre but thats nitpicking on the valuation.

My overall point was that it was more a case of quantity over quality and just because someone was picked in a certain round doesn't mean they are worth that now depending on how they have developed. Also have to have the selling team hold interest in the prospect etc.

Ultimately I agree with you that it will be in between Eichel and Fiala and the expectation I feel would be that whoever is trading for him will get his extension sorted as part of the negotiations.

It’s two different scenarios. Fiala was moved for cap purposes. Winnipeg isn’t under any cap crunch atm. Although I the production between the two players is a bit similar on average, PLD is a center and those tend to cost more. I also think he’d get more AAV.
