Stars decline that deal pretty easily, don’t see them getting rid of Bourque as they should, plus if it had to be for a young dman I’d much rather it be Hronek. Stars could get Barrie to do the exact same job for much cheaper and probably better.

I’ve shown hatred towards a Petry trade to Dallas since Habs fans have been asking for wayyy too much, but it could be an interesting idea (if Petry actually produces in Dallas).

Couple of prospects like Johnston, Stankoven and Bourque are off the board and likely our 2023 first too. That leaves us with Dellandrea, Stranges and the 2022 1st. If Petry comes to Dallas I’d like for 1.25 million of retention on his contract. Now Petry has been good, but inconsistent at times. I think the most likely deal would be him straight up for the 2022 1st considering there’s almost no interesting prospects in that range.

Could be a good deal IF Petry decides to play like he could before, but IF not we’re getting scammed. It’s a high risk, high reward scenario.

Petry is old and can fall off a cliff at any moment. Dallas Is better off trading for someone younger, like Ethan Bear or Brandon Montour

Yup, I’m just accepting the possibility that Nill will do it cuz Petry is an old dman.

My ideal scenario involves getting Murphy and Montour on the right side to pair with Heiskanen and Lindell on the left (Suter buyout or any sort of way to get rid of him).

Yeah the last thing Dallas needs is another defenseman on the wrong side of 30.

Neither of them can play 1st pairing minutes though, or even top 4 minutes. They've both always been very sheltered. In my opinion their #1 target should be Connor Murphy, then Petry or Burns with retention.

Bear thrived in a top pair role in Edmonton against tough competition. How has Montour been sheltered?

Bear's sheltering hasn't been as bad as Montour's, but I still wouldn't trust him anywhere near the top 4. To me, he's starting to look like a one-year wonder. That being said, only five NHL defenders have been more protected than Montour from top lines.

Bear had two straight years of putting up solid two way results with above average QOC. He's definitely capable of playing in a 2nd pair role and he's likely going to improve. He just turned 25. Dallas is better of taking the risk of trading for a young play driving defenseman than a mid 30's defenseman who will likely fall off a cliff within the next 2 years. Dallas needs young puck movers/play drivers who aren't liabilities defensively.
