Hard to say if MTL would take that, I probably would. But there's no way that Arizona makes that trade, so that messes it up pretty significantly.

If Tkachuk doesn't want to sign long term, why doesn't St. Louis just wait a year and get him for free?

I'm doubting Tarasenko waives for Calgary. Blues really don't have the cap to move out to make a Tkachuk signing this season. But with Tarasenko a UFA next season...IMO it's obvious Tkachuk leaves as UFA and likely signs with the Blues.
I know Calgary can sign Gaudreau to one more year....but IMO if he hasn't resigned with Calgary he's looking to a UFA, even if it's 7 year deal with Jersey of another USA East coast team.

I think he does, Blues cannot afford him now unless we move like Krug or something crazy. I don’t wanna give up Kyrou or Thomas so I’d rather wait for Tkachuk to be a UFA
