Build around Miller

Créé par: bdb
Équipe: 2022-23 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 28 juin 2022

Description
Tried to build a team around keeping Miller, should be room to re sign for 8.5-9 if they want to go that route.
Lots of trades:

Horvat would solidify Detroit Center depth and give them a leader who grew up a Wings fan. 2023 is a premier asset but it sounds like Stevey Y wants to move out of the basement. Hronek has been up and down, Canucks hope they can get more offense and transition from the back end.

Sean Walker lost his spot after being injured but had put together a couple solid defensive seasons, they gamble on him being a fit for Hughes or OEL in the top 4. Pearson heads back to LA to give them offensive and veteran help on the wings.

Leafs move around 4 million in cap space and get a potential 3C in Dickenson if they believe he can bounce back. Martin had a very strong AHL/NHL results and would serve as a cheap backup/depth option for leafs who need to solve goaltending. Canucks get an expensive backup but one with more experience, a legit 3C/top 6 winger on an expiring deal.

Vegas pay a 3rd for Cap flexibility in Ferland's contract and flip a young Dman for young top 9 forward. Canucks hope Coughlin can continue to grow and possibility be a top 4 option in the future.

Anaheim pays a couple of late 3rds to stabilize their right side as their young Dman get acclimatized. While overpaid Myers has played better than many expected the past few seasons and would serve as an replacement for Manson.

There's a mutual interest in both ANA and Manson to bring him back to the Ducks, even if they need to over pay him they do that before they pay any positive value for Myers, especially something as much as 2 seconds

Myers is negative value to ANA, he may not be to VAN or other contenders but he is neg value to ANA, epsecially coming from a division rival

Take out the first and wings say yes, def not getting unprotected first in a deep draft from a rebuilding team for a guy who can walk In a year

The assumption with Horvat was that he wiuld agree to an extension prior. He's mentioned previously that the Wings are essentially his hometown team and the team he grew up cheering for. I agree likely not unprotected but no way the deal happens without the 2023 1st.

I could see Myers having positive value to Anaheim next offseason after his bonus is paid and he is only owed $1 million in salary. Doesn’t really make sense for them this offseason though unless they really really like the player. Certainly doesn’t make sense for the cost OP suggested

Fair enough, my thinking was Manson for 1 year = 2nd + Helleson (mid 2nd) and Myers 2 years = 2 2nds for the extra year. Myers is better offensively and similar defensively.

Then it doesn't happen. Detroit isn't trading 1sts, Yzerman was emphatic about that. Also, you're overvaluing Horvat in general.

Solid thinking in principle, but the Avs were pushing for a cup, and Mansons AAV to COL was 2,050,000, as opposed to Myers making 3x that

The Ducks are rebuilding, and yes they could use a RD, but unless they are being given at least a second to take on the Myers deal I dont see it happening

Subban, Manson, Braun, Gudbranson, Rutta, Lyubushkin (All FAs)
Holl, Bear, im sure theres more through trade (Cheaper and potential dumps we would be paid to take)

All could fill that spot, Drysdale and Shattenkirk will play the top two pairs next season, paying 2 seconds for a 6M at that point 3rd pairing player doesnt make much sense, and it makes even less sense when you consider it helps out a division rivals cap situation

Wings absolutely decline.

2023 first rounder is out of play. You are over-valuing Horvat a bit. The most I would do is Hronek and 2 2nds.

Wings decline easily
Detroit is more of a rebuilding team than Vancouver

A 1st is out of the question

Then the deal doesn't happen, Stevie has said multiple times that he's not trading 1sts

We’re not paying a 3rd to take on more LTIR lol. I really think more people on this site, specifically the Canucks fans need to look into how LTIR works. If you want to say we need a pick to add to Coghlan to get Hoglander, sure ok, but we wouldn’t pay to take on an LTIR spot that literally does nothing for us

VGK are already in LTIR. There is no difference to them taking on ferland or not. Coghlan + 3rd imo is not enough on its own for Hoglander so helping out vancouber by taking their LTIR evens out the trade

A TDL move by a cup contender is a pretty different animal than an off season trade motivated by the salary cap. And with Myers cap hit the 2nd year is a liability not a positive. I like Myers enough that I wouldn't hate the Ducks picking him up, but not at the cost of two 2nd's.

The only way Detroit is trading a 1st in 2022 or 2023 is for a young (25 and younger) true top 6 center.
So it isn’t likely.

I agree, incredibly unlikely but at 27 Horvat is pretty young and is definitely a top 6 Center.

I don’t hate Horvat, I think he could be a good fit. But you’re not getting a 1st, AND Hronek, Smith and a 2nd.

Wings would offer Erne, a 3rd this year, and a 1st in 2024
