Description
I left some cap space open for a RHD if needed, besides Petry what are some short term patches to get by for a few years while they draft and develop some RHD.

My favorite idea was Tyson Barrie. Barries contract only has two years on it and no NMC so he can be moved if needed. Priority is maintaining cap flexibility to ensure no big contracts block out the ability to keep the core (Hintz, Heiskanen, Robertson, Oettinger) and whoever successfully establishes themselves to join that group (Johnston, Harley, Stankoven, Bourque etc). So no Petry, no Klingberg, unless he takes a 1 year deal like Hall did to try and get a better deal next year.

Bridge deals for Oettinger and Robertson, be prepared to pay big time in a few... Otherwise might have to pay someone to take Faksa and Khudobin with no retention.

Backup goalie, used Wedgewood but any solid experienced backup that’s relatively healthy for 2-3 years and 2mil or less.

3 rookies in the forward lineup (all place holders, could even just be Bourque, Damiani, Dellandrea and all Junior eligible players go back to save an ELC year) and Harley on D again ideal scenario where they don’t go committing cap long term to overrated UFAs, yeah this isn’t going to happen with Gaglardi, Nill and DeBoer. Just the best way, plus not going all the way to the cap on LTIR they can accrue cap space for a deadline rental if warranted.

Also left a bit of cap if anyone thinks Wedgewood would need more or Robertson and Oettinger don’t go for the bridge deals etc.

I'm a Coyotes fan and I'll say that both Martino or Mascherin aren't without value. Martino is an interesting college player and Mascherin has been a good AHL player so this isn't trashing them, and Faksa himself isn't a bad player BUT those two and 4th I don't think is enough to take Faksa on only because he has 3 years of term left which is a lot to take on. Last year when the Coyotes took on Ladd, Stralman, Ghost Bear, Roussel, Beagle and Eriksson they all had either 1 or 2 years left.

I don't think the Coyotes wouldn't take Faksa but I think it would take either a higher pick (likely a 2nd) or a higher quality prospect like Damiani or Dellandrea.

So Faksa + 2nd for Future Considerations OR Faksa + Dellandrea for Future Considerations.

But the idea isn't bad at all

That’s about 2 years too long for Wedgewood, IMO

That’s also an overpayment to dump Faksa’s contract as well, especially to a team that will need to hit the cap floor. Take Martino out of the deal & it should still be enough to get that trade done.

And with that much cap space remaining, you’d be able to turn your attention towards your RD position or add someone like a Burakovsky to your top-6 without breaking the bank

I’m going to disagree on the price. A 3rd or 4th + a B-level prospect should be enough for a team that’s going to need a little help hitting the cap floor.

If Faksa was a $5M+ cap hit, then I’d agree that he’s getting a 2nd round pick + more in a cap dump, but as a $3.25M player I just don’t see why Dallas dumps a 2nd Round Pick (or someone like Dellandrea) just to move his contract. At that point, it would be more beneficial to eat his contract for one more year & then buyout the remainder of his contract

I think that's fair and I see your point, I just know the Yotes have been adverse to taking on any kind of term and would charge a premium for it. I also think the "getting to cap floor" argument is a red herring. The floor is going to be 61 mil and the Coyotes are already at 50 and that's without re-signing any of their own RFAs, plus there's so many other teams (EDM, FLA, Cal, Tampa, Philly, Vancouver) that are desperate to move out bad contracts, they won't have any problem getting paid well to take on money

Mascherin just signed a 3 years deal with an italian team in a lower level pro league.

I think you can kiss any potential NHL career good bye.

In other words, he has no value for any type of trade.
