is it really saving any money? you got two years of saving under 900k then what happens if beauvillier wants a raise? do we just let him walk? i honestly don't watch enough islander hockey to know what his value would be but i don't think it is really worth it in the current scenario here

I'm sure NYI would like to keep him, but he's our best trade chip to either improve in other areas. He didn't have a great year last year but he's clearly a top-6 forward. I'd bet if he got traded to COL he'd hit 25-25-50 and get a raise on his next contract (maybe $5M or $5.5M).

I’m really interested to see if Beauvillier has a bounce back year this year.

With the emergence of Nuke as a top line guy (assuming he re-signs) and Lehkonen’s acquisition, Beauvillier probably would have a tough time breaking into the top 6. And a 3rd line wing has much less value than a top 4 defenseman. I could see this working if Beau was a 2C candidate but right now this is a tough sell.
