They've been paid for the retention, now if Helly was signed for let's say another 2 or 3 seasons beyond his current contract you'd have a case. It's also widely accepted that Mrazek will cost a 3rd maybe 2nd rnd pick with a b prospect to dump in Chicago. I'm very fine doing that and keeping the 2 prospects and the first and using them somewhere else or just signing a goalie

Ah yes the classic Canuck response,no negotiation, not constructive conversation. It's a good package for a player who averages 60 pts a season at 30 plus years old last season was the outlier not the norm

Jets aren’t in a rush to move on from helly, and his preference would be less scrutiny and more anonymous in USA, so probably not a fit. Jets only accepting overpay at this point though, until they make some decisions on scheifele and Dubois.

Not bad.

Some different ideas/packages than most.

I like the Helly idea and I think the price tag isnt too bad (less than 50% retained, two quality prospects, a 1st). I suppose it comes down to people's evaluations on the quality of robertson and niemala. Robertson didn;t look good in his extended audition in the NHL last yr, but hes still quality and IMO far and away the leafs best prospect and most likely to be an impact/top 6 guy. Niemala has talent definitely, but hes still real small for 20 yrs old still (think he was 5'11/only 165 pds last I saw), and the drawback was small, not physical, BUT he is probably a high midlevel prospect. I think its pretty fair both ways, with the only drawback being WPG retained 2.16mil and having to pay Mrazek 3.8 for TWO years.

Suffice to say Mrazek coming off a bad year and a history of unreliability/injuries and looking to be dumped by his 4th team, while putting up poor stats and being overpaid, probably requires a bit more, (not tons, but a bit). Maybe WPG only retains 1.16mil or TOR adds a 3rd, but its close.

I think Sandin and a 1st is a good starting point for Miller, obviously the same thing that keeps Kerfoot from having good value is the same thing that lessens Miller's: one year until UFA. Its close but its not, I think TOR has to add something, especially given that VAN is paying more for Kerfoot and Miller retention than TOR is paying Miller, maybe a 2nd/maybe quality midlevel prospect like hirvonen or Abramov.

Similar to the first deal, I just cant see VAN or WPG paying more (including retention) in cap/salary for the lesser replacement guys, without a bit more added on or less retention.

Holl is right on. I think a mid to late round 3rd is his value. Hes a quality 3rd pairing guy, who while a UFA to be, is only 2mil.

While I think the Leafs get old real quick and pretty much empty the picks/prospects in the above, the original description is right, Dubas and Sahanahan are down to their last dance, because the only other approach is dismantling the cap heavy structure and looking to move 1 or 2 of the big 3, which admits theyve blown the last 4 yrs trying to make that approach work.

That absolutely isn't the price for retention. You'd at least need to add Liljegren or Knies for the Jets to even consider that, but even that won't get it done because there's at least a dozen teams who would trade for Hellebuyck and pay for his full contract.

canucks fans say no to ALL trades that do not benifit our team. You are no different.Kerfoot is soft easy to play against.so no real fit here and Miller will get a Much better return with pcs we need.

Recognize that Miller has outscored all of these players over the last 3 seasons: Barkov, M. Tkachuk, Tavares, Crosby, Stamkos, Guentzel, Stone, A. Svechnikov, Point, O'Reilly.

And your trade is the typical Leafs offer. Sandin is a good piece, but not enough to be the anchor for this deal. The pick is 25th and Kerfoot is an UFA in one year. Why would Vancouver entertain this offer when there will be better offers.

From what I've read both of those players have made the decision for the Jets

Trade him then, I'm curious what other team would beat this offer and be super comfortable with their purchase

Miller is a Ufa in one year, why would anybody pay more for the rental?

I did look it up that's exactly what I did, you missed the games played vs total points and point share for each player. Miller is as a whole below all the players you listed and broke the 60 pt mark exactly twice in his career
