Putting my biases aside, the only pieces that interest the Canes are 2OA and Severson, but Severson would only make sense if TDA is a sure fire no return case. Might as well just drop both TDA and Severson since it’s a lateral move positionally. Canes aren’t moving Drury, as he will be the long term successor to Staal’s role. NJ would have to make an offer too stupid to refuse for the Canes to want to give up Drury. Small sample size at the NHL, but he is NHL ready, especially if he keeps producing like he did in the AHL. Necas is in trade rumors, but I highly doubt Necas and a late first gets 2OA.

I get the consensus would be the Devils immediately decline, but I would say the Canes pass very quickly. Looking at this trade, you are trying to give the Canes futures for key roster players. The Canes are in win now mode, and while they would likely select Slafkovsky with that pick, this trade makes no sense for either side. Devils will want more and the Canes want something that will help them now.
