Sandin will likely make more. He has more NHL experience and played a bigger role than Liljegren. Liljegren was the Leafs 7th defenseman when they were healthy and was healthy scratched during those short times while Sandin was scratched very little and missed most of his time due to injury.

True but there’s no way he will make 2 mil maybe 1.75 million at most

I’m Sandin has a better case than liljegren. More games played more points and more icetime despite being younger. Sandin could easily make more, though I may be a bit high with $2 million aav

I don't know...Liljegren is 23 and has a total of 74 NHL games played. He was also 8th this year in ATOI for Leafs dmen.

Do I think he's worth more? Sure, he's a solid, up and coming dman. Did he have much of a case to get there? Not really, unless someone offer sheeted him, which, while it's fun around here, we all know is extremely rare. I'm excited to see him get a bit more icetime over the next year or two to see what he's got.

14 games is hardly "more experience" it'll be the same for Sandin unless he gets a longer deal. But I would wager he gets a matching deal. Both for less than 3 is another example of Dubas being a great GM. The haters are going to lose their mind when this team pulls a Colorado.

Identical deals will be what happen unless Sandin goes for term and gets 3 years then it'll be closer to 1.75 million.

Yup, quite easily.... Liljgren+ would be their main and only realistic target in TOR if theyd want to move Connor Brown

So you hope eh? Just praying to see them have trouble keeping good players. Sandin has no case, he has 14 more games than Liljegren and 4 more points.

Ummnm, he was a RFA with no arbitration rights and weak stats, I think he got more than he should've at 1.4mil, coming off 800k.

Hes still not a sure thing at the NHL level on a club that hasn;t seen the second round in forever...

???? Hope? I’m trying to guess. Imo he has a better case than liljegren.

That said, liljegren easily had enough comprables to get over $2 million and still took less so it’s really tough to say what Sandin will sign for imo

Identical contract makes the most sense. Similar experience, similar age, similar draft ranking, similar points, similar positions. There is almost nothing to differentiate between the two. Unless of course you just don't look into anything and just say nonsense to make your self feel good.

He’s one year from Arb rights. If he signed a one year deal he easily could’ve signed for more next off season if he as a simile year to this one. I mean, liljegren is clearly better than a guy like Vaalimaki who signed a better deal than this one which bought 0 RFA years.

Other players who signed for more include Ethan bear, Jake bean, Philip Myers, Ryan pulocks first bridge deal, Troy stecher, Ben hutton, esa Lindell’s first bridge contract.

All of these guys signed for $2 million+ (except valimaki) and had less than 100 games played and less than 30 career points. Liljegren easily compares with these players

Liljegren had no chance at "twice as much" --- He's played 76 games @ the NHL level -- for many of which he looked shaky. He looked solid down the stretch, yes, but w/ Gio as a partner.

Good player yes. Good value signing by Dubas, yes. But this isn't some grand negotiating miracle.

Don't be surprised if Sandin is signed @ the same, or $100-$200k more.

I won’t bother writing this out again but there a plenty of comparable who got over 2 million with some getting as high as 2.8, which would be twice as much

To be fair, they have been in the weaker division getting easier 1st round matchups for years and failed to get out of the 2nd round. Apart from Montreal and the bubble, TO has had murder 1st round opposition

Apart from 2 of the last three years, eh?

Also Colorado literally just beat Tampa, who is the one good team the leafs lost to in the last 3 years.

Make myself feel good? What are you talking about? I’m speculating RFA deals, it’s interesting and fun. What they actually come out to be doesn’t impact the speculation.

You need to take a major breath and go touch grass or something bud. You’re taking this website way to seriously today
