If 5 years of John Gibson is only worth a first and a rental middle-6 forward, why do you want him?

For starters, Paul was on the last year of a 2-year 2.7mil AAV deal. 800k for one year to be 4th line C just to lose in the first round? Yea, not gonna happen.

Second, Dobson just put up 50 points and the Islanders went to the ECF in '20 and '21. He is their top RD of the future and will sign long-term. They are still in a win-now window regardless of firing Trotz. They have all the pieces but got killed by covid and injuries to start this past season.

I think all those teams decline, for either poor value or unsuitable needs.

Anyone who thinks Mrazek gets a 2nd is insane. Hes coming off his worst season, hes overpaid by about 2mil, and his injury/unreliability history is well known, which is why a team like the leafs without a goalie is willing to part with him (see Detroit, Philasdelphia, Carolina, and now Toronto for references).

And those RFA/UFA offers arent just weak, they're insulting. TOR has to offer an uplift on what theyre making now, why would Engvall, coming off his best season, go from 1.25mil to 750k for example? Why would Mikheyev sign for 900k? Those are laughable.

And, while not confirmed as yet, Kuzmenko is probably a Canuck.

Dobson is absolutely 100% an untouchable for the Islanders. He's a 21 year old RD that just put up 50 points on a defense-first team while carrying the corpse of Zdeno Chara all season. Two mid/late firsts is not even a decent starting point if you want to trade for him.
