Is DeAngelo looking to take a discount? If not I'm sure he gets more than 4m in arbitration.

Not sure why Calgary would trade away defense.

I think it's worth a shot. Worst case he is a bottom pair D, dest case he moves Joki down to bottom pair.

Fair enough when put that way
But what if there’s other options out there we like better?

Big fan of Kylington but I’d imagine Canes looking for a more proven young dman. Flames would have to add imo

For a 6th they get 2 depth Dmen, I think that's something they would likely do. They generally like to carry 2 extra D and 1 extra F so doing this would give them 3 guys to rotate on the bottom pairing with Bryson. I don't like Bear for a 2nd in some of these other AGMs, but I can live with giving up a 6th for Bear and taking on Gardiner.

No chance TDA and the canes go to Arbitration honestly. More likely the Canes do not qualify him and he becomes a UFA or he’s traded than RFA Arb.

The Canes gave him a chance and a structure to succeed. No one Is owed anything here, but on the open market…there won’t be very many teams offering TDA enticing deals until he proves it for a longer duration. Make this ‘discount’ a one year deal then.

I suppose that depends on what you think of Kylington. He could be an extremely solid asset on the backend in the Canes system.

A third pairing like this makes the Canes defensive corp possible the best skating defense in the NHL 1-6.

I agree with you about the Canes moving on from him if they don't get him cheap enough, think we talked before about it too.

I can see him getting better one year deals if teams aren't giving him term and money, in that case he might opt to stay in Car for a year to increase his chances of getting more money. That being said he's had 3 good seasons now but he might need to better prove himself as a team player (vs a nuances in the locker room). I'm sure though, he would rather take a cut though if it improves his chances at getting a 7-9m the year after.

I think we might see more 1-2 year deals than people think this offseason. TDA is for track record of being a good teammate and others for flat cap purposes. Might work well for Canes who are staring at a two year window before a lot of RFA/UFA signings are due.

When I think about potential returns for Necas, 3rd pair D doesn’t really come to mind.

I agree if TDA becomes a UFA, along with Dylan Strome and Kubalik, they will just be adding to the list of guys trying to potentially get paid. I think it will be like a few years back where the top goalies (Kuemper and Campbell) , Dmen (Klingberg and Letang), and Forwards (Gaudreau, Forsberg and maybe Kadri) are the only ones to get paid a ton and we see more Toffoli and Hoffman type deals.

So basically you are in camp bridge deal for Necas. For what it’s worth…I think Flames need to add here, and just made a post about including Toffoli as well.

I'm higher on Bear than most and he fits the age group of the core. It may just depend on if they want to bring on a older vet since the D corps is so young or if they are looking more long-term. I kind of think it's the latter.

I don’t see the point in moving him unless it’s for a clear upgrade up front or a Chychrun-type D. He has no leverage, other than an offer sheet after 7/13. I’d much rather take the bet he rounds into a 60pt player on a bridge versus seeing him do that on another team after he was traded at his lowest value.

Seems like a good deal…. IF…. they like Bear
If they don’t, then there’s absolutely no point in acquiring him
If they like someone else better & can acquire him instead, then there’s also no point in acquiring Bear

With how insanely young our defense is,
it’s quite likely they’d wanna bring in a guy or 2 with some experience
