It's not going to take as much to dump Mrazek as some think. He's got a pretty good track record and whoever trades for him can likely dump him for more picks once he regains some value,

Détails additionnels:
If Fleury re-signs then Talbot will probably be moved and goalies never get traded for much.

Why would Petr Mrazek waive for a team heading for a full fledged rebuild here?

Vancouver obviously passes.

Doubtful the Leafs are winning a cup with Cam Talbot as their main netminder.

Low-pressure chance for him to prove he is still a starter.

Toronto's options are:
1) Trading him to a bad team
2) Buying him out
3) Playing him as a 1B
4) Burying him in the minors.

4 would probably end his career, 2 and 3 can go either way. 1 gives him the best chance to prove himself and earn a bigger contract.

And yes, if Talbot struggles, can Wedgewood be expected to take over? I don't think so. Perhaps they miss the playoffs with that duo.

Better question. Why would the Hawks take on a terrible goalie with 5 straight years of consistently inconsistent play despite have good defenses in front of him and he's only got more injured since???

They are probably trying to tank, if he bounces back they will try to flip him and get even more compensation. The only question is what would the sweetener be? A 3rd or a 2nd, maybe a prospect as well?

Guerin said on the radio yesterday “I can guarantee you Cam is coming back next year,” when asked about the plan for the goalies.

I know GMs say a lot, but unless someone overpays (which why would you ever overpay on Talbot), I don’t think he’s shopping him.

Kyle Davidson has bee on the record saying

“I don't want to go out and take on a quote-unquote 'bad contract' if it puts us in a tough spot just because we get an asset.”

TOR will need to overpay in trade assets of they want to dump him to the Hawks. Odds are he just gets bought out. The Hawks could always sign him to a more appropriate deal after he's bought out and then try to flip him. I think it'll need to be a 2nd and either Abruzzese or Roni.

They traded away Kahkonen, so I don't see why they would trade Talbot if they can have him and Fleury in a tandem until that one guy is ready (his name evades me atm, Askarov and Wallstadt come to mind but that's NSH and DET).

Guerin probably means it when he says there is no plans to move Talbot yet.

The Leafs had the 27th ranked goaltending last year. It would be hard pressed to be worse no matter who you put in net.

It's a paper thin goalie market this summer. Once the very few available goalies are picked up, there will be many teams left without a proven goalie. Mrazek will have some value this season. Despite what the legions of "I hate the Leafs more than I like hockey" fans want to see happen.

It’s Wallstedt, he’s MNs prospect not Detroit’s. So you were on the right track.

But yeah, people can interpret that however they’d like. I just wanted to put it out there, since there’s a lot of player-related news breaking these days and it can be hard to keep up. I was late on the PLD stuff, so figured I’d share the Talbot quote to keep other fans in tune.

IMO it can be taken at face value. No plans to move Talbot. Maybe at the deadline if it makes sense, but seems like he’s simply waiting on Fleury’s decision. Either run Talbot + MAF or Talbot + random backup.

He's playing hardball ofc, Mrazek wouldn't really put them in a hard spot. Let's see which Kyle comes out on top. If Leafs give up a 2nd+a promising prospect like Abruzzese or Roni then Davidson wins. If it's less than a 2nd, Dubas wins the negotiations (not the trade). Just a second or the equivalent is even. If Dubas can get the rights of Kubalik or Strome too, maybe they both can win the trade (Dubas would have probably won the negotiations).

I had a feeling that I was wrong and it would be Wallstedt, now I remember Detroit's is Cossa.

Minn just needs to survive those dead cap years, part of that is probably not tinkering with the goaltending if it is working.

Part of that is because Campbell tried to play injured, and Mrazek couldn't stay healthy to get any rhythm. Also they are trying to win it all, so just improving on goaltending rankings isn't enough.

I will 100% agree Dubas does a really good job getting value in trades. I just hope its not the Hawks that get fleeced.

It's not paper thin for bad goalies like Mrazek. Those are a dime a dozen. -15.5 GSAA over the past 5 years and that's in front of good defenses.

You might need to worry. Davidson might have to make it up to Dubas for the leaked Fleury+Hagel trade discussion with a bad Mrazek trade.

They talked about Fleury+Hagel for Mrazek+Knies+1st for anyone who didn't hear.

I'm not sure that's a thing though. If there was a leak...thats an accident. It's not a reason to do favors for other teams.

Yeah, definitely not a reason but would make for a funny story if that came out as a factor for a trade after they retired. Might compete with the story Burke told of two GMs (forgot who they were) setting up a fight over an offer sheet. Luckily, Bettman stepped in before they could follow through with it.

I'm sick of Leafs fans bringing that up. There is zero evidence that it leaked from CHI aside from Dubas placing blame on live TV. Davidson doesn't owe Dubas a damn thing. All Friedman said was that it "came from a trusted source", nothing about what camp the source was from. And I'm not just saying that as a CHI fan because if Davidson said something like that on live TV, I'd call him a baby too. Leaks and speculation happen all the time, it's part of the job. Be a damn professional. I would be more concerned if Dubas wasn't exploring the TDL goaltender market at all.
