Canucks likely decline. They're not desperate to dump Myers and they want to add picks.

On the contrary. Seen numerous reports of them actively trying to get rid of big contracts like Myers, OEL and even Garland. Must be done to retain Miller and Boeser, and Myers is the easiest to move out so.

I’d accept, though I highly doubt Hextall blows all 3 seconds for the next 3 years so it probably doesn’t happen.

Funny, because he had a great year this year. He's well worth a high pick based on his season, plus retention. Ghost was a cap dump because Fletcher is incompetent. Traded the dude with two firsts then turned around and acquired a worse player with a first.

Not to mention, this year Ghost put up 51 points... on the coyotes... Imagine what he could do with Carolina.

I'm on and off. It's similar to a trade I've done before. If Pittsburgh sees a chance to win, and get a young guy on the verge of a breakout, I'd imagine they'd do it.

I wouldn't put it past them. They're in their window now. Bit different too as its a full year deal, so it's a bit easier to swallow. And with retention, Ghost is worth it.

I would. If Ghost was a 1 year left RFA then sure, he would have control. Canes wouldnt sacrifice their big deadline trade chip for the 1 year of Ghost.

Personally, I still think they may. I think what happens with DeAngelo may also be a contributor too

They're looking to move them yes, but not to pay to move them, and the reason isn't to retain on those guys.

They are not in a position to do a trade like that, nor do they have to because they currently have 10.5 mil in space to sign Boeser, Lammikko, Highmore, and Rathbone. Then they have a full roster.

Canucks decline for sure.

DeAngelo put up 51 points. In 65 games.

Ghost is a good player, but you're not going to see a team giving up a 1st for him even with retention. He is still a defensive nightmare and he is still a powerplay specialist. If he's having success in Arizona, good for him. Giving up a 1st for him as a rental... that's just bad management. A 2nd? Maybe, with retention. 3rd? I could see it. 1st is too high

I didn’t retain. And you’re missing the elephant in the room… Miller, who is up next year. Myers would still be under contract. Better to clear now, extend and make the other moves. No one is gonna pay to take Myers for their hands

I don't think they see Myers as a cap "dump" though. I could see a pick swap with later picks in a Myers deal, but they won't give up a 2nd + to do it.

Oh I see, I misread your previous response. I thought you said retain ON miller and boeser, but you just said retain like keep them. I understand your reasoning, but I just don't see Myers being the guy. RHD is the weakest position on the Canucks, I don't think they're paying to lose their best one. I disagree with the "better to clear now" part, because it would leave a massive hole in the Canucks D-core and honestly essentially tanks their season this year. There's no RHD in UFA, and they would have to trade even more to fill Myers space. If they are committed to make cap room, I would guess it's much more likely the Canucks move a top 6 forward like Boeser, Garland, or Miller out for cap space, and bank on guys like Kuzmenko, Podkolzin, and Hoglander developing and filling the void.

I am also wondering if they actually do need more cap space to retain everyone. If they spend 10 mil on the 4 RFAs I mentioned in the previous post (which seems doable), and those contracts are at least 2 years in length, then the Canucks would have 25 mil (plus any cap rise) to sign Miller, Horvat, Kuzmenko, Hoglander, Dermott, and Schenn. It might be a bit too tight and they might have to trim a couple mil somewhere, but that doesn't sound completely undoable.

Edit: honestly if they're trying to dump anyone, it's Dickinson and/or Poolman. I think they'd pay some picks to get rid of them, but not a 2nd.

I just can't see us trading one of our two NHL-qualified LDs for another, even though Chychrun is clearly much, much more valuable than Bjornfot. Substitute Spence or Grans for Bjornfot and we'd say Yes.

I don't see LA trading two 1st's. I can see Iafallo being included instead since AZ needs to get the cap floor.

Really would not want Iafallo, too many forwards in the system, and I filled the cap issue with far worse players (the plan). Iafallo doesn’t really fit the plan moving forward with his contract. I would be willing to drop the first to a lower pick or a second prospect but not Iafallo.

Players also will take less money to try and win a cup. I don't see AZ being a place players want to play the next few years.

Well, Myers doesn't really have that take less to win. Arizona has been able to bring in quite a few guys to sign deals with term. No competing team is going to take Myers, and Arizona can pull the Hall and Buffalo with the retention game to move him elsewhere. Always other factors

Canucks aren't paying anything to dump Poolman, the new regime doesn't see him as a negative asset EVEN when he's healthy. The most I can see the Canucks paying to unload Dickinson is a 4th
