I agree on Byram not coming on a trade for Miller stand-alone, but Miller a 99 point forward single-handedly running the Nucks and costing the Avs around $2.6 million after 50% retention next season with Luke Schenn so losing Byram doesn't leave a hole on the defence seems like a great run at a cup next season if the Team is win now

Yeah the Avs are going to win the cup with Miller and Byram played 28 minutes in game 5. Never ever do it, Byram isn’t just a stud now, he and Makar are the defensive core for the Avalanche for the next decade, because it will be exceedingly difficult I would imagine to re-sign Toews.

I’m probably the #1 Girard stan here, but If the Avs are going to move one of their defensemen it’s probably him. Makar just won the Norris, Toews just finished in the top 10, and Byram is on an ELC and nowhere near his prime.

But the Avs also don’t need to move any defensemen and if they do it’ll be for a long term piece, not rentals. Otherwise, they can run it back with the same defensive core until there’s a cap crunch.

Therefore, out of Kuemper, Kadri, Kubel, Burakovsky, Manson, Lehkonen, and Nischuskin who is gone?

Easy: Kadri, Bura, and Manson leave. Kuemper can come back or a cheaper goalie. NAK is cheap and an RFA, Lehkonen is an RFA, Nuke would be the big UFA priority.
