PLD seems like he wants to go to Free Agency. I doubt Buffalo is the team that tempts him to shelve that for two years.

Weegar is still really good, no? Certainly there are more moveable pieces for Florida.

PLD will still only be 27 at the end of this contract. I think his UFA statement is in regards to not wanting to be in Winnipeg. 7.5 is probably an overpay by 1-1.5M at the moment so I can see him taking a short deal but more than 2 years.

Weegar is a UFA due for a big payday after next season. I don't think Florida will be able to afford that so I have them moving him now rather than losing him for nothing.

You can disagree all you like, Mittelstadt and Jokiharju and the 29th overall pick doesn't even come close to landing Pierre-Luc Dubois. Besides he's not leaving Winnipeg for a rebuilding team.

PLD's comments from wanting to leave CBJ tell me that he really just wants to decide where he goes next or to put himself in the best situation to succeed. I don't think Buffalo tips the needle much for him, but I'm just speculating.

Imo Florida will lose forwards/forward depth before Weegar. You probably try to keep your top players and figure the money out rather than lose good players to keep lesser ones. Time will tell I suppose.

That's a 16oa pick and olofsson at 2.5m, plus a second. For a cap strapped team, they'd be crazy not to listen.

For those of you saying that Florida isn’t moving Weegar, note 2 things:

A) A large part of the Panthers fan base hates Weegar, &
B) Weegar is due to hit UFA after next season.

Might as well get something for him now.
