I just cannot see Cliff Fletcher trading the fifth overall pick for veterans.

Cheezus! I missed Garland and 15 overall for second overall. You typed before I could edit.

And I lecture others on knee-jerk reactions before looking through an entire post! Shame on me.

As much as I hate trading Hoglander, this trade brings some much needed grit to the Canucks and moves Poolman out. Hoglander is not really a third or fourth line player and there has to be some incentive for Ottawa to take Poolman. Watson scored the same number of goals as Hoglander and only 2 points less in only 2 more games. There is no doubt that Hoglander is the better offensive player and is younger but I think Watson is more what the Canucks need. And it's only for 1 year.

No problem with the value or players, but the Pens already had Pearson under Sully. Sully didn't like him so I can't see us taking him back.

You're crazy if you think that's even remotely fair value. Canucks don't view Poolman as a negative asset, Watson barely has any value at all, dear god, not to mention you're way undervaluing Hoglander
