I don't think the idea of a Myers/JVR trade is that far fetched—but I don't think the Canucks will feel any pressure to retain cap on Myers.

There is a scarcity of RHD available and according to Frank Seravelli on a radio hit yesterday Myers is in demand and will return assets if the Canucks do trade him. JVR could be a short-term cap fit as Vancouver has a need to add size up front to their top-9.

Without the picks there is more value going to Philly. Pearson is equal to if not better than JVR at 4 mill less. Myers is a good defender too.

then make it 2nds or something, absolutely nothing there warrants 5th OA. Also I think you undervalue Tippett

For Philly: Ellis is healthy and Risto was just signed, Attard had a great NHL audition. So PHI doesn;t need a RD

RD are in demand, but not at that cap hit and position in PHI. Almost 20mil in RD?

Right now Tippet doesn't have a ton of value. Regardless I think he could be a decent player and that's why I put him in the trade. I could say the same about you undervaluing Pearson and Myers. Both are experienced players that can be very good in mid roster roles. I also think this trade caters to the fact that Torts is coming in and a guy like Tippett may not get any ice time, while Pearson and Myers are older and can handle Torts coaching style because they both work hard and bring some grit. I think Myers retained and Pearson for JVR Tippett and a 2nd would be fair. I consider JVR a borderline cap dump anyways and he only has one year until UFA anyways, so most of the value coming to the canucks in the trade is Tippett and the 2nd.

Y’all have to remember this is the same maganement team that though trading the 14OA and a 2023 second round pick for an expiring Rasmus Ristolainen was a good idea

Crap argument, were also talking about the same management that traded 15th OA for Kapanen, signed Jack Johnson to a 16.25M deal, signed Marcus Pettersson to a 20M deal, traded Hornqvist for Matheson, and traded good futures for Zucker.

Our GM didn’t do those things. Ruthford doesn’t make trades. Your argument is wrong. Are we forgetting who the Flyers GM is?

Rutherford still has a lot of pull in his position. Allvin also worked under him back in Pittsburgh.

Im aware who Philly's GM is and I'm saying the situation isn't that different.

I also dont think it matters since that doesn't change the fact to offer sicks in general. Using Fletcher as a justification is lazy. Despite some hindsight bad trades he is still significantly more qualified for the job than anyone here

Yeah, the 14th OA and 5th OA are two totally different things. Additionally, Risto was viewed as a big, hard hitting, RHD (all things that teams covet) placed in a bad situation on a bad team, for literally his entire career. Granted he didn't look great this year and the contract Chuck offered him was ridiculous, but at the time, it's like comparing apples and oranges to this trade. It's like trading for Risto again after knowing he would such, by trading for Myers.

Are you telling me that teams value big defenseman over 99 point players? Does that mean Myers can receive a first round pick?

Yeah Rutherford still has his share of influence, but at the end of the day, he's not the GM, it's Patrik Allvin, and while he worked under JR in Pittsburgh, they're not the same people even if they have compatible hockey values. The Jack Johnson signing was made more out of sympathy for Johnson always having his parents mismanage his finances, and things only started going south for Rutherford in Pittsburgh when the front office there become more lean. Rutherford works best when he's got a diverse cast of smart individuals all working as a unit, and he's got that much here in VAN, at least to start
