Wheeler trades

Créé par: End_of_the_Laine
Équipe: 2022-23 Jets de Winnipeg
Date de création initiale: 21 juin 2022
Publié: 22 juin 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
After July 1 "Modified NTC: Player submits a 5 team trade list (2022-23 and 2023-24)"

I am only including teams that can realistically take on Wheeler's cap hit, locations he would like to realistically play and live as well.
Transactions
1.
WPG
  1. Henrique, Adam
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2022 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
This would require Henrique waiving to come to the Peg, possible the Jets however would want to avoid taking even that kind of money back.
ANA
2.
WPG
  1. Girgensons, Zemgus
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2022 (BUF)
BUF
3.
WPG
  1. Gardiner, Jake
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2022 (CAR)
Détails additionnels:
Gardiner's missed last season, Cane's will want to move his $$ but may be reluctant to take on Wheelers kind of $$. Not a likely destination but who knows.
CAR
4.
WPG
  1. Khudobin, Anton
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (DAL)
Détails additionnels:
Again the Jets will most likely have to take a bad contract back for Wheels, I would suspect they'd want a higher pick for Wheeler if he's traded in division.
DAL
5.
WPG
  1. Anderson-Dolan, Jaret [Droits de RFA]
  2. Walker, Sean
  3. Choix de 6e ronde en 2022 (LAK)
Détails additionnels:
LA has loads of cap space and prospects and may be motivated to pay a bit more for Wheeler. JAD is a B level prospect who can slide into the 4th line. Walker is simply a bad contract who'd end up being an overpaid 7th D man or buried with the Moose.
LAK
6.
WPG
  1. Tatar, Tomas
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2022 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Devils have three 4th rounders
NJD
7.
WPG
  1. Lindblom, Oskar
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (NYR)
Détails additionnels:
Flyers have three 3rd rounders in 2023, Lindbolm is an overpaid 4th liner with one year left now who the Jets would likely have to take back. Wheeler and Tortz would get along!
PHI
8.
WPG
  1. Donskoi, Joonas
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
Donskoi is another over paid 4th liner with 1 year left, Jet's could get back the 4th rounder they gave the Kraken previously.
SEA
9.
WPG
  1. Dickinson, Jason
  2. Ferland, Micheal
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
AND another over paid 4th liner in Dickinson, Ferland a MB boy who likely wont ever play again, Jets would stash him on LTIR. Wpg gets rewarded with a 2nd for taking 2 bad deals.

I've talked about this with my buddies and IMO the best way for the jets to deal him and for Wheeler to get somewhere he wants would be to route him through another team first.
I proposed a deal with Arizona where the jets send Wheeler, either NYR's first or a one of the jets second rounders, plus one or both of Harkins and Stanley to ARI for Schmaltz.
Then ARI could move him to one of his 5 teams (or more if he approves) and retain half his salary. Ari needs to get to the cap floor
The jets would get a good young C/RW to replace Wheeler

I hadn't thought of using Zona in a 3way, that's a good point. He becomes WAY more valuable to contending teams if that happens and Zona eats some of his salary. I don't think the Jets would want to take back any more than 3 million for him unless it was a solid 3rd line winger, or a 4th line winger who has the one year left and can contribute.

Would you be interested in olofsson over girgenson. Problem is girgenson is part of the sabres long term plans where as wheeler would not be. Best thing about him for sabres is his contract os up in 2 years.

Sabres decline, and that’s ridiculous
We aren’t trading a guy that wears an “A” for your egregious Cap Dump
You’d have to pay us *significantly* to take Wheeler off your hands

And why would be he waive to come here anyways??

I wonder if a Okposo for Wheeler straight up makes sense? Jets would only have one year of Okposo and maybe Wheeler finds a leadership role in BUF. Just spitballin

Maybe, I think Sabres might be a team he'd consider going to, but less likely than some of the others.

Sabres might prefer that but would Okposo? I believe he also has a NMC .

From Frank Seravelli "The early sense is Wheeler may be willing to consider a proposed destination that also is not on his list, if it’s a proper fit for his family and career." So, who knows maybe it would be a team like Buffalo. Id disagree with him being described as a "cap dump", he's still a solid NHL player who can play on any teams PP, and contribute at 5 on 5, he has 106 points in his past 115 games. He's not ascending, but he's also not regressing at such a rate where you'd scratch him or bury him in the AHL for example....Oh, and he wears a C, not just an "A".

That's really underwhelming for Schmaltz though.

I’m not saying Wheeler is trash
But bc he is massively overpaid at this point, he is absolutely a Cap dump

And just bc u guys are willing to dump your Captain for salary cap reasons, doesn’t mean we’d move a guy who wears an “A” for us

Sabres are still in rebuilding mode, & not spending a lot of $$$
We’ll be a “Cap floor” team again this season

So to get us to take Wheeler off your hands,
you would absolutely have to pay us

Now maybe u wouldn’t have to do that with every team,
but with the Sabres you would

I agree. My thought is ARI is a terrible organization that just wants more bites at the apple in the draft. Maybe adding more picks? i dont know

Fair, I think LA/Ducks/Flyers/Devils are more likely destinations.

The Kings dont need Wheeler but would have to accept that trade. I dont know why Jets do that deal though.
There isnt much value there. Dolan is good but you could probably do better.

From what I understand the Kings want to make some noise either in trades or the UFA market, easier to just sign a UFA, but they may not want to over pay long term and might OK with overpaying short term for Wheeler. The Jets would happily take more but I only think they get more IF they keep some salary. I don't believe they're interested in that.

I agree Kings should not overpay for anyone on the trade market right now. This would be a good trade for LA. Wheeler would keep Kopitar happy for the remainder of his contract and theyd both come off the books when the Kings youth hit their stride.
Tell the gms weve got a deal!

I think their new GM has a plan, don't think he's giving away one of his last few decent players away for so little in return.

Honestly, getting that 8 mill off the books is good, and with Walker being a right shot, he can fill a need.

Im not trading anything for a cap dump im trading a guy im not going to sign because i have prospects that hopefully fill his roster spot better, for veteran scoring right winger with leadership expereince and a contract that conviently ends when i need to start paying the key peices of my future team. Olofsson will end up overpaid or gone in the same time as wheeler is off the team and if we don't have a better player to commit 5mil to 3 years from now then we suck anyway. Theres plenty of teams that could use a shooter like olofsson on thier 3rd line the sabres are not one of them.
As an oiler getting paid 4.5 to be a passing option for mcdavid is brilliant, sending him to pit to play with crosby would be great, sitting at the top of the circle for barzal to pass out to while they grind the ther team against the boards perfect. Those are teams he fits a top roll with but for sabres, we have plenty of shooters. sabres dont have the team to use him and will have to pay him like they do.

Totally disagree
The Sabres do need goal scorers, & Olofsson is a goal scorer
Even if u did wanna trade him, you’re getting terrible value
Just terrible

LTIR cap doesn't equate to a bad contract. Your rationale for Vancouver adding a 2nd to swap Dickinson for Wheeler is nonsensical. Wheeler's contract is arguably worse than Dickinson's

We do need more than 1 guy who scores goals
Duh
Trading Olofsson might be a possibility
But trading him for a 36year old who’s declining & has a huge Cap hit would just be a stupid move for us

No matter how much DDossett would like it,
it would still be absolutely brutal
