1st, 2nd, top prospect is a good return for a rental. what would detroit realistically want.

Larkin is one of those players that isn’t necessarily untouchable, but you are going to need to pay more to obtain him. You’re also putting too much stock on his UFA status and the value for a rental. He’ll either be extended by DET or a sign and trade.

If Larkin seems destined for free agency and not returning to Detroit after next season then I dont think that kind of deal is crazy but just not the pieces they'd want. The picks are late the prospect good but we have like a stockpile of ld on the way. Someone out bids you for him.

sign and trades don't happen. a rental is a rental. i think you're being biased on this one.

Anaheim won't sniff the playoffs this season and will only come close next season, after which Nylander's contract expires. So no matter what your view of Gibson's value is, trading 5 years of him (the last three of which will be the first part of Anaheim's window) for Nylander makes no long-term sense for the Ducks.

A 1st a 2nd and a high end prospect or 2 in some mix. Detroit lacks high end center prospects so id imagine thats a want. If they move Larkin its kicking the rebuild down the road so mostly high end futures.

well leafs are offering the 1st, 2nd, and high end prospect but leafs dont have a center prospect to offer instead of sandin.

Its tough to gauge because if Larkin goes then bertuzzi goes and its a fire sale.

The Wings literally just traded an extended Mantha recently. Boston hand shake extension in place for Lindholm. It does happen.

You are also forgetting the fact he is an elite, young Center, which like with elite young D carry a premium in the league. And DET has a severe need for centers, so why would they not try to get one in a return at the very least or do all they can to retain Larks? Someone’s overbidding your offer.

I’d say it’s 95% Larkin is extended and 4.9% he’s traded, 0.1% he’s traded to the leafs.

Wings will win a cup before the leafs

neither of those are a sign and trade.

larkin is good but he's not elite.

I meant sign and trade vaguely, whether a literal sign and trade or close to it. You can’t honestly say that when Boston signed Lindholm, within 24 hours a max extension happens, that there wasn’t a extension discussion prior to the trade. You don’t know that and if I’m a betting man given it happened within 24 hours, I’d wager it was discussed. Just as you are basing your argument and trade value on assumptions I am as well. And go take a look at the other Wings’ fans comments, you’ll hear a bit of the same from Wings fans. Dude countered with 5x 1sts.

No he is elite, he’s not franchise nor top of the big dogs.

that's not what a sign and trade is. leafs came close with hyman but it ultimately fell through. even then boston paid rental value for him.

larkin is a run of the mill 1c, maybe even below average.

No one knows the GMs discussions and where value correlates. Lindholm could have just as easily received ‘rental’ value due to his numbers. Boston could have jumped ship if an extension wasn’t in the realm of possibilities. We can only guess and are going to continue to split hairs, so agree to disagree I guess.

Agree he would be an excellent 2C , one of the lower end 1C. But young 1C’s still have significant trade value.

Value maybe, but not the value Wings would want. Again they need a center back, not a LHD. The value also is suspect because if Wings were to trade Larkin, a 2024 can not be part of the package. 2nd that 1st is late not in the top 16. So value not really. He was taken 16th and had a good year, not a top player but a good year. The return would be have to be a center prospect and top 20 1st and a 2nd but no later than 2023.

The picks are the most enticing thing towards what you offered, but Larkin is a mid 1st draft pick putting up better numbers for where he was drafted. A late 1st is not doing it, especially when the 2023 pick would be more sought after. And I get your UFA argument, but see an extension as more likely to happen and the Wings willing to flirt moving Larks only for an overpayment. See Stevie standing pat for this offer.

no problem changing the 2022 1st to a 23' 1st. leafs got knocked out in the 1st round so the pick is likely higher than where it ends up next season.

Yep, and always the possibility they go further next year. With 23’ being deeper I think the Wings would be willing to take that risk tho.
