McDavid is still better but he is the 2nd best player on the planet right now.

Not according to people who know better than us.
I agree McDavid is more of a threat and far more exciting - even capable of being a far better game breaker... but, I don't think he's as complete a player as Mathews. A consensus on who is better is splitting hairs really... the difference is 0.5 - 1% either way. McDavid destroys defense... Mathews humiliates goaltenders.

Matthews won the Lindsay and Hart and he deserved them, but I don’t think that means he’s better than McDavid. McDavid is still better. Even this season McDavid still put up more points than Matthews. I still take McDavid over Matthews any day but it’s no shame being the second best player in the league. Matthews is incredible.
