Iles could easily re-sign Dobson to a 5x5 this year and then re-up barzal to a 10x8 next year (which would be an insane overpay) while replacing varlomov with a $3 million back up next year after he expires.

Pettersson’s deal does not get in the way of re-signing any RFA’s for NYI even if they overpay guy

Sorry that came across too harsh. First off it’s pretty hard to not look good next to Dobson. Secondly, Isles aren’t gonna spend that kind of money on him without sending salary back. They need the money for Dobson and any other improvements to the offense.

As I said before, isles can easily afford to retain Dobson and Barzal even with Pettersson on their blue line.

Pettersson is a smooth skating, good passing defensive defenseman. He would compliment Dobson’s ability to carry the puck and be a shooting option in the O-zone extremely well.

If isles want to upgrade LHD, which is their biggest weakness right now, Pettersson imo would fit perfectly.

If you disagree, that’s fine. Lots of other teams would take Pettersson for a 3rd. Who he is traded to does not matter for the AGM
