Kerfoot is an excellent Swiss-Army-knife kind of player, the type of up-and-down-the-lineup player whom every serious Stanley Cup contender needs. Unfortunately, Anaheim won't be that kind of team for at least two seasons, so the Ducks are the wrong team for a semi-expensive rental like Kerfoot. And Stolarz is a perfectly good backup goaltender whom we might want to re-sign at the end of the season, which would be impossible as a practical matter if we trade him first.

Anaheim says no. They don’t make trades to benefit other teams. Their window to win isn’t for a few years. If they’re making a trade, the return should benefit that window, not be a UFA at the end of the season.
