Offer-sheeting Kakko

Créé par: brady_t12

Description
The offer sheet for Kakko has to be just enough money and term that the Rangers won't match it. With Wilson out to start the season, Kakko should get the ice time he needs to grow into a more established NHLer.

The compensation they get for not matching isn't much, so I don't see why NYR wouldn't just match the offer sheet then trade him instead.

I think the offer would at least need to be like 5m for them not to match, unless they spent their 11m in cap already

Like, say, the Caps? Don’t get why so many Caps fans want to flip Sheary for a pick. He’s a fantastic value at 1.5M, basically guaranteed to outproduce his cap hit. You need guys like that in a salary cap world, especially when you’re gonna be missing your 1RW for half the season.

I might be wrong but I think you can‘t trade a player after matching his offer sheet for at least 12 months.. Depending on the time the offer sheet is made NYR simply might not have the cap flexibility to match…

You are correct, he can't be traded for 12mo but idk if 4.2m is too much for them. The compensation is poor for a 2nd OV choice. If it is they probably trade him prior.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did match him because he's a recent 2nd overall pick, but if the Rangers are strapped enough for cash, they might not have much of a choice. If anything, it screws the Rangers over one way or another and the Caps better lock up all those RFAs of their own quick lol.

Because we need draft picks too. The caps are deep enough and have plenty of young talent ready to jump in the lineup. Granted we will be screwed if we get hit bad by the injury bug mid-season, but we did see a lot of young guys step up when the time came for them this year.

I mean he's not getting that type of money in the next few years. I don't know why he wouldn't take an overpayment for 4 years.

That’s not an overpayment. An overpayment is the offer sheet Kotkaniemi got from Carolina, if you really want Kakko at the bare minimum the term needs to less.

A late 2nd rounder in next year’s draft isn’t gonna contribute while Ovie’s still around. And the Caps really aren’t that deep on the wings, at least not with Wilson missing half the year. In your scenario, what’s the 3rd line while Wilson’s out, Snively-McM-Leason/Protas? Lavi would give that line 8 minutes a night, tops. You could bump Oshie down to babysit, but then you’re relying on Leason or Protas to play in the top 6 for half the season. And what happens if Mantha or Oshie goes down again? Keeping Sheary around is gonna be crucial for surviving while Wilson’s out, just like he was crucial for surviving while they were missing Backstrom, Oshie, and Mantha for the start of last season. They’re gonna need a guy like him who can play either side on any line and hold his own.

I think NYR would eventually match that, but it would definitely make them really think and screw with their offseason plans. Would definitely prefer to spend money on another winger like Marchment rather than Manson. TVR is a completely fine 3RD
