You cant dislike a no risk chance on a guy at near entry level cap hit.

While I think having a career year at age 26 (in Russia) is more hype than being able to translate his game tyo north america, its a low risk move. Hes probably a nice creative, albeit one way guy, whos not especially fast and not physical, but thats for his linemates. I doubt he is more than a 9th-13th forward in the NHL

Hes a good offensive player, but even at 900k if he plays 3rd or 4th line in the NHL thats a sound investment.

what makes him so different from Gusev or Shipachyov?

He signed with the Canucks so he's a superstar until the season starts.

Canuck fans. You can say move out Dickinson/Pearson all you want. If you don't have anyone to trade them too and can't find another club, you are stuck with them. I have a feeling to move either or retention is going to be required.

Pearson is easy to move without retaining salary or taking money back, Dickinson likely not so much

Lousy take, doesn't account for his seasons in Dallas

What part is lousy?
He's never score 10 goals in a single season and he's at best an average defensive player.

If he hits all his bonuses than that counts towards next seasons cap hit total wink though

I don't see that. Teams don't help out other teams that are in cap trouble unless they get something in return. It's going to be retention or draft pick compensation or both....

It isn't, but that means you have to consider that maybe he has the ability to put up higher point totals than he has before in his career should he manage to play a full or close to full season in the near future

Pearson > Bear

Bear was getting scratched in the playoffs and arguably isn't worth his qualifying offer

Bear fell down the depth chart in Carolina mainly because of Brendan Smith's strong play while Bear was out of the lineup, so I wouldn't read too much into him being scratched in the playoffs. I still think he's an NHL defenseman. I could see Carolina trading Bear for Pearson because they'll need to replace Niederreiter. Pearson is no Niederreiter, but he's probably good enough for the 3rd line which is where Niederreiter was playing. What's in it for the Canucks? Just a bit of cap space I guess. It shouldn't take much more than the $2M he made last season to sign Bear.

Then let's see Carolina bring back Brendan Smith. Pearson isn't much of a downgrade on Niederreiter

it baffles me that people think he is going to be more then a good 3rd liner

yeah I was pretty wrong about this, not going to lose any sleep or anything over the Oilers not signing him though was the Oilers have plenty of forwards and they could probably trade for him if they wanted to.
