1st pick overall in a weak draft year. Shane Wright or Cooley, say in 2023, wouldn't be drafted in the top 3 spots...maybe not top 5. So putting that in perspective, that pick alone wouldn't land Cat...wouldn't take a bunch more but alone it wouldn't by itself is my guess.

I think he means Cat is not McDavid, but it's not even close the #1 pick for McDavid. For Cat it's closer but not enough, would take something else is my guess.

It just seems so strange to me that Chicago would want to move Dach or Cat. Aren't those the type of guys you build around? My thinking is that the Cat and Kane combination can win too many games...

Yeah, I think the idea is to move Cat, Kane and Toews and just tank. If this is a true tear down rebuild, then the Hawks aren't competing for 4 to 5 years and that starts falling outside of Cat's timeline to peak.

I'm never a fan of teardown rebuilds. The risk is too high they will be successful and meanwhile the fanbase shrinks and thus revenues. I think the Jones trade, amongst others moves really screwed up this team over the last years under Stan Bowman. They had all the chances in the world to retool for a couple years and still be competing now.

Call me crazy, but I think the Hawks would be fools to pass up this deal. They get #1 overall and will still be bad enough to likely pick top 3 in next year's draft while stocking their organizational depth with guys like Kidney and Farrell. If Josh Anderson is healhty, he's a nice player to have as well and probably outproduces Dach

Outside of the Shane Wright pick, it's basically garbage for Dach and DeBrincat.

The top 3 pick next year shouldn't be contemplated as part of the value of this proposed trade. Shane Wright is a big gamble, if he was drafted next year he'd probably be the #4 to #6 pick. Which if this was next year's #1 then I agree, but Shane Wright is simply not worth this package. Much rather have Cat any day over Wright and if Dach pulls his development together, he could also potentially be worth more then anything in this package...long shot but bird in hand.

LMAO you'd be nuts to pass up on Dach and Cat over Wright who's questionable. If Wright becomes as good as Cat in the NHL then it's a win but that's clearly far from a given with his performance this past year in the juniors.
