Might seem stupid to make a cap dump trade with a team with a ton of cap space, but I needed to do this after giving the RFAs big money.

The Murray contract is bad, but he can be a replacement for Campbell. Shouldn't be a huge deal for them since we are taking Kerfoot's contract and they can trade/buyout Mrazek and Holl.

Yea I'm a huge fan of Asplund and kind of relied on Adams selling low on him. Mete could benefit from a change in scenery and you get some draft stock, I could see why the Sabres say no to this though.

Value wise you are in the target but players like Asplund falls in a category that if you don't severally overpay, teams don't really want to move them...a bit like Lekhonen

Not really any reason for the Leafs to do this, its a loss all around. Trading a positive value player for a negative value one while taking on close to double the cap. There's nothing they are winning at in this deal.

Leafs need to attach a 1st to get rid of mrazek, but ottawa can dump murray on the leafs and get a roster player back. that does not make much sense.

- lol Gaudette at 2.0 AAV. And Sens won't/shouldn't re-sign him anyway

- A 4 years contract is the worst term the Sens could give to Norris, brings him directly to UFA

- McNiven? No need, no spot. he's barely AHL level too. Sens are fine with Forsberg/Gustavsson/Murray then Sogaard/Mandolese/Merilainen in development

- So no need for Fleury (or any goalie), Sens have Forsberg and Gustavsson and Matt Murray whenever he's healthy

- Mete is not being re-signed by Ottawa, he's walking as a RFA, he's not going to be traded and has no value

- I really doubt the Sabres trade Asplund for a 3rd round pick. Sens have absolutely no spot for him anyway

- The Fiala trade is good but Wild fans have been talking about Gustavsson or JBD as the secondary piece (vs a 5th round pick here)

- Spending two 2nd round picks and a 7th to dump a 2 years contract at 4.5 AAV would be really stupid for a team with well enough cap space during that period of time

- Leafs should want to send Mrazek contract instead. They also can't afford to take additional cap with Murray. Sens also don't need/currently have no spot for Kerfoot. This trade complicates things for both teams

This needs a lot of work

This whole 'time to trade away futures' narrative is big bs. No perennial playoff team traded high picks BEFORE they proved they could at least contend for the playoffs. It's a sure fire way to have inconsistent seasons. I really hope Dorion doesn't mess up the rebuild forcing expectations on them without proving it first. Having said that, a top 4 D is the best way to improve the team. I hope they keep their 1st, maybe find a 2nd line winger in FA

Yes. Before spending the 7th OA pick or any other significant asset, it would be stupid to not try to lure a Top-6 winger on the UFA market. They can afford to spend higher AAV than pretty much all teams without giving up too much term. It could even be like a Taylor Hall to Buffalo 1 year contract.

I'm perfectly fine with packaging 2 2nds and a prospect because they have multiple picks this year. But too often teams push too soon and they end up underperforming or see sawing year after year. Maybe a Giroux fits into that, I'd be shocked but it would be cool and checks a lot of boxes. Then they can continue to build and have a factory of good players coming through the system... That's the dream right there haha

You can have fun at the bottom of your division for the next decade if you don't start trading draft picks because the Senators are the worst drafting team in the league. Sanderson over Drysdale, Tyler Boucher...just have fun at the bottom of your division

Not sure if you saw the trade, but it's Asplund for Mete and a third. Not just a third round pick

Not sure why the hostility but you clearly aren't a good evaluator of skill. Sanderson hasn't played an NHL game yet, and he's only 20 lol. Kind of early for that assessment lol. Sanderson could easily be a better all around defender. Nothing against him, Drysdale is dynamic and I love his game. Tkachuk, Chabot, Formenton, Pinto, Batherson, Greig, Thompson, Bernard Docker... Pretty good young players sure to play or already playing in the NHL. Boucher is the only reach pick which I didn't like.
Also, pretty rich opinion being a fan of a team that drafted Nolan Patrick 2nd overall.

They need a top-6 Winger. They need to stop relying 100% on drafting

Mete has no value. Sens are letting him walk as a RFA. They're not qualifying him

Uh one of the most RIDICULOUS comment I have seen on hockey forums in the last 20 years, all sites combined... You just have no idea what you are talking about

Ottawa has been one of the very best drafting teams in the NHL since 2008

Do you want a list of all the players they have found outside of the Top-10? Karlsson, Batherson, Stone, Silfverberg, Lehner, Pageau, Chabot, Hoffman, etc. The list is very long

Based on this comment and this ACGM, you actually seem to know very little about this team (or hockey in general)

Drafting is actually the ONLY thing they are good at and well above average. I can't even imagine how bad things were if they were not good at drafting.

Boucher was not well received pick, you're right but we also complained about every other pick and it looks like their 2nd round pick Zack Ostapchuk could pay off big time. He just had a coming out party in the WHL playoffs as an 18 years old, with 23 points in 12 games

I wanted Drysdale initially but now I really don't mind the Sanderson pick. He's seen as a top-3 prospect in the world by pretty much everybody. You clearly haven't seen him play in the NCAA or WJC. He's going to be a beast
