What people do not understand is Petry is not a fit for Wings. They are in need of LHD and 2nd line center. Petry while good would be a luxury not a necessity. Leddy is not better than Petry, but Petry had a bad year last year and has two year left. Yzerman has traded for LHD over the last 2 years, on good and on e bad. Say what you want Staal is not the player of 10 years ago, but he is a steady player, good leader and Yzerman kind of player.d

The sad thing is that these two immediately got defensive as if they don't know what a comparable is. Who cares if Petry is slightly better than Leddy; no comparable is perfect. The point is they're not getting more than double what we paid for Leddy under similar circumstances, from a rebuilding team, for a guy we don't need and who a bad year at 34. And that's not even mentioning that silly contract and it's length. Quoting xGF is not going convince anybody. There's a reason he still on their team...

You do realize when a player asks to be traded, most of the time it's in both parties best interest to move on right?

and i don't think anyone on here thinks Petry is "so good". But his contract isn't hardly as bad as some people make it out to be. He's a 35-50pt defensemen who's pretty physical and can play both PP and PK. I'm not sure what people expect to be paying someone like that who plays upwards of 22min against the opponents best players on a nightly basis.
