I'm not sure Schenn is needed to get Montour back in that deal.

Agreed. A c prospect and a pick should be enough given montour’s role and contract on FL

i also agree, i figured he wasn't needed in the trade, but i added him as a cheap option for florida since they're gonna be strapped for cash this offseason.

Lassi Thompson is nice, but the Canucks shouldn't be trading for Connor Brown unless they can for sure extend him

Seeing this, Florida accepts immediately.

No reason for VAN to move Schenn. He is highly respected by the organization and is a valuable asset.

That Ottawa proposal is pretty fair for both sides IMO

Personally, I value a guy like Brown a lot because 2-way play is what makes you win but goal scoring is also needed

An healthy Boeser can score goals so it depends the due diligence on him and how they envision his health going forward, as well as his contract demands

He shouldn't be too hard to extend. It's hard to imagine him not in Ottawa for next 4-5 years but assuming this deal happens, I think you could sign him around 5.0 for about 5 years. Look at his last 3.6 AAV contract, doesn't seem too greedy as he signed that just after having 43 pts in 71 GP in his first season with Ottawa while being a key player on the PK and in a matchup role against other teams top lines.

I'll give Brown 4.5M for that term, but not 5M AAV

He's a similar player to Hyman and not too far in production despite playing with much much lesser players in a defensive role.

Hyman got 7 years x 5.5

It all depends on his greed and his agent

True, it's just that Brown has been fairly high maintenance as of late, and he plays the type of game that isn't known to age well

High maintenance? In what sense? If it's about injuries, this season was actually the FIRST time he missed a NHL game (since being a regular in 2016-17)

He missed 18 games after playing in like 400 straight games

And what do you mean a type of game that isn't known to age well? I think the exact opposite

First, he is a PLUS skater and has a non-stop motor and flawless work ethic

Like I already said, gets rarely injured so as long as he avoids that, I could see him playing close to another decade and at least half of it at his current level

He actually reminds me of a Matt Cullen type who played until 42 y/o

Brown really throws the body as well, just like guys such as Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow, those types of role playing games aren't known to age well, performance levels of those types of players have a greater risk of dropping off before age 35
