No.

Holtz is still an unknown, but the Devils need a guy like him more than Fiala.

I like Holtz, but this franchise has never had a long-term solution for a top line center and Fiala is the best asset we've ever had to try to get one. Personally I think trading him for a winger is a mistake

I get it, was just seeing this as a Fiala replacement trade especially with Rossi coming in. You think they would go after like a Necas - or would the 2OA be in play to draft Cooley/Wright? Though I have a hard time seeing NJ give that pick up for Fiala.

Trade Fiala for best young Centre available sounds great to me. Off the top of my head best options from some teams: Ott Pinto, NJ Mercer (doubt they'd trade him), LA Vilardi, ANA Perreault? (no chance on McTavish), NYI Raty, Canes Necas.

They need to draft better. Raty and Lundell (more of a 2C) were both available the last couple of drafts. Seriously MN could have had this group of young centers: JEE, Lundell, Raty, and McBain.

Fiala isn't going to get a 1C in return. They need to get the best skill player possible for him. Holtz (still a longshot imo) is right at/near the top of my list of possible returns. Necas, LA's (they all are questionable) prospect, or OTT 1st are meh consolation prizes to me.

I like Raty as a prospect but he has done absolutely nothing in the NHL so we can't say if that's a miss or not yet because we don't know.

And that's not exactly what I meant. I know we aren't getting a 1C for Fiala, but you can trade Fiala for picks to draft one or a prospect (like Raty) that could potentially be one. Again, I like Holtz, but center depth wins cups. Not winger depth.

Or they could use that pick and take another LD... I have no faith in GMBG's drafting FWD abilities.

I just don't see a top end 1C prospect in this draft. Wright is another RNH. Cooley is small, but at least he has the foot speed to have a chance as a NHL center, a better version of Granny. After that it looks like a bunch of Kunin quality center prospects.

Agree on Cooley and Wright. I'm definitely not very high on this draft but even in bad draft years there are gems in the mid- to late-first round. My preference is to get a 2023 pick in a Fiala trade since that draft looks much stronger.

Hey! Hope you're enjoying the summer break.

There are two undrafted youngsters at Minnesota State I had my eye on: F Jake Livingstone and G Dryden McKay, but I haven't seen anything about either one of them being signed. Anything you can tell me?

You as well, friend!

Honestly I'm not sure. Our beat writer typically has a pulse on big name free agents from Minnesota schools but he was covering the Eastern Conference finals so he didn't write much or have any podcasts.

Dryden McKay signed an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies, something like a month... month and a half ago now. As far as I recall, Russo tweeted about it when it happened at the time.

I haven't a clue about Livingstone, however.
