Description
He's being shopped aggressively, and there is no way anyone takes him on without retention. Florida needs cap space, and we have a little bit to spare. I doubt he would waive for San Jose, but it's fun to imagine the 3 of the worst contracts in the NHL all on the same team.

I have no idea what a trade would actually look like, this is a shot in the dark. I'm sure he has negative value at 10m, and minimal value at 6.

Looking for a sharks view on this…what happened to Lebanc? I really liked his game up until this past year and always felt him to be a player the Canes should look into.

Seems like Sharks fans are ready to shoot him into the Sun in return for any draft pick at this point.

He had a slow start, was demoted to the 4th line, and then had a season ending injury. I think he is a good player, but doesn't play defensively sound enough to be a real 3rd/4th line option. He also doesn't generate enough offense to be a genuine 2nd line guy. He's basically a power play specialist making 4.25m/yr, which is way, way, too much.

When you say defensively sound enough - you are speaking in his own zone I assume. Does he forecheck well - Canes use their wingers differently. Wingers are basically fore checkers and then have to fill in for pinching defenseman. And good lord - we could certainly use some PP goals.

He's... Lazy. Don't expect hard forechecking, dont expect him to get back at full speed to cover for pinching defensemen. Expect him to sit mostly stationary in the right circle on the power play and either try to snipe top corner or do a no-look behind the legs pass every time he has the puck.

No point making AGMs rebuilding when management say they aren't going to do it.

I may have undersold him a bit. If he was on a 2.5m deal people wouldn't complain. He got more than he deserved because he helped the team out with the 1m deal the year before, and it's biting us now.

I could be wrong, but I get the vibe that the reason Florida is offering to retain big money is so they *don't* have to sweeten the deal to move an otherwise decent goalie. I don't think sending Reimer back with retention gets you Duclair & a 3rd on top of Bobrovsky with 4x$4M retained

I can take the third out, but I don't think Bobrovsky has any kind of positive value at $6m. The Sharks ask for Reimer at the deadline last year was a 2nd+ sweetener, so adding a little retention gets us Duclair (proving depth scoring that the Sharks desperately need). He's already 33 and his save % isn't bad, but it isn't insane either.

Duclair just doesn't feel like a guy the Panthers move - he's a 30 goal scorer signed 2x$3M - that's exactly the type of guy a contending team in a cap crunch should be holding on to. I can picture them giving up a prospect or a better pick in that kind of deal before they move Duclair.

They don't really have many better picks, but I wouldnt be opposed to a decent prospect. I know nothing about their prospect pool, so I'm not sure who to ask for

He isn’t a play driver and isn’t great in the defensive zone. When placed with good players he will produce, but when the staff puts him with borderline ahl players his production drops and they wonder why and say he’s bad. He’s a good complimentary piece but at $4.75 mil he’s a pricey one.

If we’re taking on Bob I’d at least expect to be getting rid of Vlasic. I know you gave SJ Duclair and retain 4M of Bob but that’s still an anchor of a contract.

This is just patently untrue. As in this is all malarkey. There is no NHL player that is lazy. You also don’t take into account his usage from an exceptionally poor coach. I find it bloody hilarious you criticize his defense when last year he was one of the Sharks best defensive forwards up until the point he was sidelined with injury.

Regarding PP usage and being stationary, that’s literally the Sharks PP system. He’s doing what he’s told inside of the umbrella system they are using.

I’m sorry one more. The forecheck they employ has the Center as the F1 90% of the time. As a RW he’s either the F2 or F3 who are literally directed to stay high in the zone and cut off the rim pass or the center outlet pass. Try again with that “doesn’t like to forecheck” junk.

No need to retain on both goalies. Make Bob’s retain more. That trade is only made if Sharks expect to tank.

Way overpay for Kahk. As much as I like him, he’s still very unproven.

Need to buy out Vlasic. We have better D men in the system.

Unrealistic to offload Vlasic. The whole reason Bob is available is because they need cap space, they would never take $7m back the other way. If you mean getting rid of him to another team I also don't see it. I would expect him to get bought out next summer to finance Timo Meier's new deal.

Which Kahk are you talking about, the Sharks have 2 now? If you mean the goalie, it's possibly an overpay. If it's the forward, you need to overpay a bit on an offer sheet or the Rangers would instantly match. I agree that Vlasic eventually needs to get bought out, but if you can wait a year it's better.

The goalie. It’s definitely an overpay 2x2 is more backup level salary.

Fair enough, it's just the price I've been seeing around here. If they can bring him back at $1m/yr, I won't complain about it.

Sharks fans are unrealistically critical without looking at contextual factors. Labanc was mis-utilized on a terrible team by a terrible coach in a terrible system. He was given bottom 6 minutes and expected to produce at a top 6 rate. Still he was only producing slightly under top 6 winger in p/60. Improving in any or all of those areas and he’ll recover back up to top 6 production. His pay is what frustrates a lot of people because they don’t understand he actually gets paid what most W with his production get paid.

Now I'm even more confused. You told me I overpaid him at 1.75x2, and now you're telling me that evolving hockey projects him at 2x2? Did you get the 3.25 Kaapo Kakko offer sheet mixed up or something?
