YANNI GOURDEEE

Description
This could work but probably won't happen. Cap hell incoming in summer of 2023. Might be better for Drury to make some trades to fill roster spots and spend as little as possible in FA.

With that said, I won't be shocked if Goodrow and/or Trouba get moved before the 2023 off-season. Easily replaceable players with high cap hits. It would definitely solve our cap issues.

I signed Motte on this just because I love the way he plays but I think it's more realistic to find someone just as good who is much much cheaper.

I made him expensive because SEA values him so much. Voted team MVP. However, he's 30 years old and SEA is in no way a win-now mode so trading him for prospects is the smart thing to do for them.

Don’t ever underestimate the price of 3 years worth of retention.

To get Gourde out of Seattle (ESPECIALLY with that much retained over 3 seasons), it would take an "overpay" from NY, for certain. Age, experience, leadership and everything else he brings is very useful to a developing hockey club, and he isn't going anywhere for those reasons unless the offer is "Godfather-like." LOL

I mean the guy is 30 and SEA is awful. They need to sell high on him and two talented prospects and a conditional 2nd is a lot for a guy who put up 46 points in 70+ games.

With the deal I made on here, what more would you put. Genuinely asking.

And Seattle gets MORE awful without him. Is that what Seattle should do? . . . Every player passed their prime who plays well for us should be shipped out for potential?? . . . Oh, and we should pay half his salary to play for someone else while we're at it? Come on! We need to put a product on the ice, too! If you really want him, and you want to only pay half for his services, the offer needs to blow us away.

Honestly, for how well he performed and the price you paid to acquire Copp, I don't see how you don't keep him in the fold. (and yes, I understand that could get pricey!)

I honestly wouldn't begin to know. I am sure every contender in the league would be interested/making calls if Seattle made Gourde available, so it'd be quite the bidding war, to be certain . . . and again, if you want Seattle to pay half or near-half his wages . . . .

Lundkvist, Cuylee, '23 1st Rounder (unconditional) . . . and maybe instead of buying him out, Seattle will also take Nemeth off your hands.

Like I said, IMO the deal Seattle should look for can only be viewed as an overpay for NY or any team. But again, what the hell do I know!?! You're right about Gourde's value lessening the older he gets, so . . . . (???)

A deal for Yanni can't be that far off from what we gave up for Copp but I get your point.

Yeah, MTL would most def throw their hat in the bidding war.

Honestly, if you want Gourde, an established and effective two-way C with playoff credentials at just over 3 mil with term of an already reasonable contract, you're not making him nearly expensive enough.

But I disagree. While Copp and Gourde are perhaps comparable players (a toss-up whether you give Gourde the edge considering his credentials, or Copp because he is younger), the big difference is the trade for Copp was to acquire a rental. If trading for Gourde, as you propose, not only are you acquiring a player locked up for 3 years, but you're asking the other team to pay near half the salary. (a point I think I've stressed enough! LOL) So perhaps using Copp's deal as a benchmark isn't the way to go, IMO.
