This was sarcasm, and now more draft picks were added to VAN. Fan base delusional on the value of one year of Miller.

At half retention we could if we moved Greenway, but that won't happen. We also could if we moved Kulikov or Jost, which are both very possible.

Issue is that I don't see Guerin moving Greenway for a rental. Assuming we move Fiala for a top pick and we're still interested in acquiring Miller, our best offer is probably something like our 1st, Addison, and maybe Jost. That probably gets beat.

Your values are all over the place.

You want Jarvis Necas 1st and a 5th from CAR and then you give him away to Boston for nothing. These are awful.

Yeah sorry, I meant we can’t afford him with an extension. I wouldn’t even consider JT without an extension in place.

Some probably are too much such as Cans and Avs, and the Boston one is insanely weak. I'm not even a JT Miller trade guy- I think the ask is crazy high for a guy that had a career yr, needs a new contract and apparently people have forgotten is bad defensively and has had consistency issues- and still that Boston one is bad.

Are all these trades working under the theoretical thought that the acquiring team would work out an extension prior to the trade?

I'd consider it personally if the objective is to stay competitive. I think Miller's game is a perfect fit for us (especially on the top line, imagine a 100 point player between Kaprizov and Zucc) and it is built for playoff hockey. If we move Fiala for a top pick, we would have two 1sts and two 2nds in the draft this year so we could afford to include our own 1st in a deal and with our deep prospect pool we could afford to give someone up.

Basically you'd be looking at this for the offseason:
In: top 10 pick/top prospect, JT Miller
Out: Fiala, 24 OA, one of Addison/Hunt/O'Rourke/Beckman, possibly a 2nd, and Jost/Kulikov to even out cap

Still have either 2 or 3 picks in the first 3 rounds.

Yeah I just don’t do that personally. I’d rather keep the pick, or trade it for a good player on his ELC.

I don't think you'd get a good player on an ELC with the 24th pick in a very weak draft. I hear you though, I think this team is in a prime position to regress significantly. Hartman, Gaudreau, Foligno, and even Zucc all had pretty insane years compared to what they've accomplished in their careers. I just don't think what we saw last year is sustainable, especially if Fiala is moved and we're banking on Rossi to "replace" his production (I think Rossi will be good eventually but I'd be surprised if he put up huge numbers next season). With that in mind, maybe we're better off "tanking" for a year and getting a lottery pick in what looks to be a much stronger draft next year.

Not 1-1 for the pick but in a package deal, with Dumba or someone else. Yeah, the regression is coming for sure. If I was BG I’d be looking to move more of these guys off career years, but doubt it happens. I don’t think we’ll tank, especially with Kaprisov, but it’s definitely possible we’re outside looking in around trade deadline time and flip some players for picks.

If we hadn't bought out Parise and Suter, I'd have moved Hartman this offseason. There's just no way he produces at that same level next year. I love him as a player, but we could get so much in a trade for him with his contract. Problem is we need players like that more than maybe anyone in the league with $13M in dead cap space.

It will be difficult to tank with Kaprizov on our roster but if a lot of players take a step back it wouldn't surprised me, especially with losing a PPG winger. I don't mean that we'd intentionally lose, just that our roster won't be as competitive next year if we lost Fiala and didn't acquire someone like Miller.

We’d be in this situation regardless of the buyouts. Actually, we save a little cap with the buyouts. I agree, I’d move Hartman and Freddie if someone offered good value.

Oh gotcha, yeah I think the same way, not intentionally tanking but just everyone regressing.

Oh yeah I understand that, I just meant if we didn't have to worry about the dead cap space or their contracts in general (like if they had been traded instead).

Sakic has stated publicly that he's not trading Byram for a rental player. Besides the rental would have to be for a player a lot better than the most overrated player in the NHL
