Option One - Kadri Still 2C

Description
Kind of my friendly rebuttal to some of the trades I've seen lately for a new 2C.

This one would likely take a little magic from Sakic, but I honestly think it might happen. While it's certainly possible Kadri chases a payday, I also think he wants to win and will ultimately decide that Colorado is the best place to do that. Not sure other contenders will be offering him too much more, considering pretty much all good teams are cash strapped these days. I could obviously be wrong, which is why this is option 1 and not option only.

The Stastny deal might be too optimistic. There are obviously other ways to go if he won't take that deal (re-sign Helm, bring up Ranta, etc.). In Colorado he gets a good chance at the Cup in a city he's very familiar with, so I don't think it's totally outside the realm of possibility.

Seems like you're cutting the cap awfully close while only carrying 1 extra roster player. Didn't Colorado generally run with at least 1 forward and 1 D in the press box during the season?

Also I would think one of Stastny's biggest assets is him being a center who can win face-offs in addition to his solid depth scoring. Seems wasted on the wing. I'm not a Colorado fan so i don't know their needs but just my observations.

It's definitely cutting it close. And yes, they prefer a 22 man roster. MacDermid can play both positions though, which makes 21 more feasible.

In my head, Stastny still takes a lot of draws but also helps Newhook grow into the role of a middle six C. I think he'd be a great example for him. And it's also possible him and Newhook switch.

Appreciate the thoughts.

Better to re-sign Cogliano & Helm and keep the 4th line together as it has been really solid. Put Meyers/Sedlak with Newhook & Compher, let NAK go. Would be enough in the bank for the extras on the roster and/or give Nich the bit more that might be needed to keep him.

Also possibly able to sign Manson with the above, but no extras on the roster.
