I don't know if Minnesota can take back that much money (necas next deal) in a fiala trade due to cap constraints

i dont know, you could be right. I think taking Kulikov too just means they added a scorer for +1.25mil. 6 million to re-sign Middleton, get a back-up and add some roster forwards. It will be tight. If guys like Suzuki and Rossi make the roster, it will be a little easier.

If they don’t bring tda back banking on Keane to run both units with no other options is a recipe for disaster when the PP is a key for next year

turbo needs to go back to the PP point. TDA is likely traded and other options arent there. The point man on the PP isnt hte issue. its the lack of movement and execution.

You also said they weren't taking on a wing or D at the trade deadline and they proceeded to trade for... a winger and a dman.

Depending on what happens with their goalie situation, they may be able to bridge Necas on a 2-3 year deal and make that work. If they bring back Fleury and keep Talbot, that probably eliminates any other moves that bring back more than league minimum cap barring some unlikely situation like they move Zuccarello or something.

Yeah we’d have to move Jost and Kul as well as Fiala. Maybe Talbot and Dumba too.

It wasn’t an issue but you’re creating one. Idk why it’s most likely he’s traded - have seen nothing that suggests that at this point. Just keep him.

I saw his trade target article - I discounted it because he didn’t have anything tied to the comment around them not being able to afford tda - no sources, no contract estimates, etc. If canes dump Gardiner they have plenty of space to keep tda.

little to do with affording next season but what they and TDA want for next contracts. TDA is going to want a 1 year or max deal. either one make sense for his career earning potential. Canes probably arent going to offer him the one year total he thinks he should get and surely wont meet the max deal.

Again I haven’t seen any reputable sources provide contract projections for tda. Very unique situation, but my guess is he’s not going to get the type of deal somebody with his production last year normally would given his past off ice issues. He also stressed multiple times last summer, during season and in exit interviews about fit and loyalty.

Just my guess but I think canes and tda find common ground and get a medium term deal done at a slight discount from what he’d normally get. 3/4-5.5ish would be my guess.

canes normally stick to their guns on player values but there’s also a point where they may have to go slightly above when there’s no reasonable backup options internally or externally. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

4-5 years makes little sense for his earning potential. He would be looking at a very light deal coming off of that due to his age. With the power of arbitration he'll get a medium sized 1 year deal then walk away with a ton more suitors than he would this season. Get him a nice 7 year deal that would set him up nicely. What players say means very little. Most say, I would love to stay, I like this organization, etc during the canned media questions.

Also assumes teams and owners will commit to giving him a big long deal. Look at the Kane situation. With tda past that’s part of the negotiations. I’m just saying it’s a unique situation without many comps bc of his off ice issues so it wouldn’t surprise me to see short term medium term or long term deals
