Oh forgot to mention this yesterday

Ethan Bear has been granted permission to talk to other teams about a new deal

So looks like a sign and trade could happen

3 teams who should look into it

1. Buffalo
2. New Jersey
3. Dallas

I get why this was done. The team did worse under Brunette than Q and I’d argue they were always going to have that regular season success, they utterly failed when it mattered though hence the change. I’m just questioning why they chose Maurice and not someone better

He's a motivational coach
And that's exactly what they need

I see where you're coming from, but Florida went from a WC team to the president trophy winning team with no big acquisitions. Everybody was playing to their potential & Maurice is known to be an underachiever. I think Brunette was undervalued and Florida will regret it.

Now they're losing some key depth pieces and getting a new voice when they didn't need one. I still expect Florida to make the playoffs, but only as #3 in the Atlantic or even a WC team

i don't see florida falling as far as a wc team. i think tampa finished 3rd. they are getting older and probably worn down after playing so much more hockey than everyone else. 1st and 2nd is a toss up between florida and the leafs.

Doesnt Boston have McAvoy, Carlo in the top 4 with Clifton being the 3rd pair PK specialist

I dont see Bear fitting in. Yes both are hurt but when they come back hes on the third pair.

Buffalo to me makes the most sense

He would be nice but I got a feeling hes going to a rebuilding team or right on the cusp of competing team

Buffalo makes the most sense to me as

Dahlin-Bear
Power-Jokiharju
Samuelsson-Bryson

aint bad

in order for florida to replicate what those 3 teams did. barkov and huberdeau would have to get hurt and their defense would have to be abysmal. Their depth would have to go bone dry as well. this team is simply too talented. vegas entire first line depth chart wise missed over half the season. eichel, stone, patches played less than 40 games each. they brought in patrick he played 25 games. they traded their top goalie away from the year prior and gave lehner the workload and he got hurt.

Yes, it is entirely possible they don't fall or it is entirely possible they **** the bed. Hypothetical arguments are always easily decided lol

I will just say the Panthers were one of the most overrated Presidents Trophy winning team ever.

-They are the only team with 4.00 or more goals per game in 2021-22,1 and they’re on track to be the first team to score that frequently in an NHL season since Mario Lemieux and the star-studded Pittsburgh Penguins did it in 1995-96.

-Barkov and Huberdeau having career years — both are setting career highs for points per game,

-Florida has 10 other skaters with at least 30 points, giving it the most total 30-point scorers of any team in the league this season

- Of the 14 skaters who were among the team’s top 20 in total ice time during both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, 10 have generated more offensive goals above replacement4 per 82 games this season than last.

-only team to come back from two four-goal deficits in the third period, twice.

-they lead the league with 7 come from behind wins

-Will Claude Giroux, Ben Chiarot, and Mason Marchment resign in Florida with their limited cap space?

Regression is going to hit this team hard, how hard, time will tell.

agree to disagree all good

i dont think brunette was that good a coach. i think he let his guys play but how many 3rd period comebacks did they have this year? just sloppy play. They were favored by many last year to win the east this year and then added G and chiarot at the deadline. brunette was one of the sole reasons they actually lost. He got super outcoached. very very evident.

I just dont see them falling significantly off. as bad a coach as maurice is, he still took wpg to the playoffs in most of the last few years no?

huberdeau is 29. barkov is 26, reinhart is 26, verheage, bennett, duclair all 26, lundell is 20 only going to get better, ekblad is 26 weegar is 28 montour is 28. forsling is 26. i mean yeah is it possible these guys take a step back sure. but none of those guys are going anywhere. marchment is likely gone. G we have heard wants to stay there. so youre bringing essentially the same team back? with a full year under a new coach? i think theres better odds bruins win the draft lottery than there is florida is a wc team next year.

i think the panthers will regress but the leafs and bolts likely do to. detroit, buffalo, ottawa, and the habs wont be as easy to steam roll this year.

I feel Florida is gonna become Vegas for all the wrong reasons

Bobrosky's contract to me is not moveable as nobody gonna want to deal with that especially when the regression kicks in and Bob's not gonna want to leave as Florida taxes mean more $$$$$$$

probably not since they traded most of their picks and prospect. even tho he is overpaid he's still a decent goalie.

vegas **** the bed largely because of injuries and trading for an injured eichel. not that the same couldn't happen to florida but that level of injuries to key players is a fluke.

San Jose Sharks

If the Sharks don’t have a GM by Draft Day I’m gonna be worried.

More so - if Kane isn’t solved by UFA. Just a couple mistakes that could have big consequences.

If SJS is planning on competing (which they haven’t stated otherwise) - they need that info on Kane solved by then.

But if SJS new GM intends to retool and get a good pick in 2023 and load up for 2024 - then that is the only scenario worth trading Meier… if we’re trading Meier it needs to be draft day.
And we need that GM…

I can’t wait for Draft Day and I’m excited to see Wilson JR’s plan - as usual. But if we plan to rebuild - having a GM who’s willing to commit would be idea. If we plan to contend - we need to know asap.

I feel the Kane situation could be beneficial for SJS as now he aint a cap dump anymore teams will be calling

Yes they wont want his 7mill deal but with retention you could get a nice return

I mean it’s hard to argue Kane isn’t worth 7m - maybe 1m retention at most but I don’t think you can really say 7m is a BAD aav for Kane’s capacity.

idk if they will regress that hard though. i mean you look at tampa and boston's paces over the last decade they didnt really let up. i think theres a really good change florida wins the atlantic again. detroit has alot to add to be there next year. buffalo is getting there but they still need a goalie and probably a defender or 2. ottawa cant really afford to add too much they still also have a goalie issue. habs are gunna be the wildcard but how many times did i hear how good they were and then they were the worst team in hockey? can anything happen sure. but i think the bruins without bergy wont be super competitive, i think the lightning are gunna struggle to get depth pieces there with their cap issues. florida and toronto should run away with the division next year.
