why does ARI do that they know devils aren't gonna take cooley, it's almost 100% certain devils will take slafkovksy or nemec due to where their positional depth is, ari would just be giving away crouse in this trade basically.

It all depends on what Devils plan on doing. If they like Slafkovsky, it’s a no brainer.
