I wouldn’t do it personally. I think if Dach is traded it’s likely a Hagel situation. They don’t want to give him up, but will if they get an offer they can’t refuse. I don’t think the Hawks love this draft based on the moves they’ve made thus far for future picks. So I’m not sure how appealing that pick is to them. Portillo is nice, but they have Commesso who is the same age and a pretty good prospect himself. Prettt reasonable offer though, a lot better than some of the stuff thrown around.

Honestly Dach seems a bit of a failure of a draft pick from Chicago he might become a decent 2nd liner or a 3rd liner but yeah I would'nt go for him but that offer seems about market value

Better to buy low in my opinion, possibly strome hawks, or debrusk maybe, the youth movement is relatively full, if you compare the team to colorado or tb, question mark in net, but you could possibly compare the blueline to colorado if power comes in as advertised and dahlin keeps growing, they could carry the blueline. The offense upfront could possibly be compared to tb, with the key pieces being young, but could use some cheap adds that could turn into essential physical players and hold down the bottom 6 or depth up the middle. Key to both need to be bargains.

Makes zero sense to give up on Dach. Just not going to happen. I'll add that I think Dach breaks out this year. He's shown flashes of being able to be a top line player, just needs to put it together every night and learn to finish

Peterka and that VGK 1st might get it done. Not particularly interested in goalie prospects right now.

He's only 21, you would be selling low on a former 3rd overall pick. I know he's a bit older but it's almost like Mitts for us. You can see the talent but injuries or something (Krueger) got in the way. And the last 2yrs haven't exactly been great for any prospects development with Covid

Dach and Byfield two big guys who don't really use their size - it's like having a car that goes 150mph but you never drive it more than 75mph - you draft guys like this thinking all the big boy qualities are a given and you get speed and skill too on top but you find out the big boy qualities are not a given and they are not winning on the boards, they are not unmovable net fixtures, they do not drive to the net an unstoppable force, they are not fearsome police on the ice that keeps the other team in line - they are just tall.

Don't really remember it Bud, but the last 3 days are kinda a blur, been at the lake with the Boy's.

Dach and Byfield are also 21 and 19, respectively. Big centers, much like defensemen, are notorious for taking longer to become what you draft them for.

That's why I think this draft might turn out better than people think. These kids development the last 2yrs gonna be some good hockey players that fall in this draft

OK, I hear this quite a bit but I also hear complaints about giving older players long term contracts because their skills are going to diminish those last couple years - why is it more heinous the player who gets a big contract at 25 who production starts to decline at 31 compared to the player who doesn't really play well until 24 and is going to be a UFA in a year - is it really acceptable for a player taken in the top five picks to need five years of development before they really help the team?

If they are 24 and finally starting to play well and are about to be a UFA, that means the team messed up on their development, they would have to have signed them right away, played them in the NHL 10+games to cause the contract not to slide, when they likely should still have been in juniors, or possibly the AHL.

I feel ya. There are too many variables involved with determining all of that stuff, though. It's a mixture of instinct and calculated risk. But if that is what it takes for a player to become great or good enough, it is what it is. Acceptable or not, we can't change reality. When it comes to Dach though, we just haven't seen enough. But what we have seen, we like. And now that CHI has committed to the rebuild, we have all the time and space in the world to let him take his time and put it all together. The 3rd overall pick was a big investment, and unless we can recoup something that helps the rebuild significantly, there is no point in giving up on him now. Plus, from what I have seen from him and what my instinct is telling me, we will regret trading him unless the return is absolutely worth it.
