How do you know it isn’t true? Russo has been on record saying it. I’ll trust him over you. Or he did because no team valued Dumba as much as he did. This is a deal he’d take. Problem is, no one has been offering anything close to this. No one is untouchable, especially Dumba, who they’re letting walk next year anyways.

I don't think that deal with Edmonton makes sense for the Oilers. They'd be deleting two established members of their roster for a prospect and draft picks at a time when they are close to contending for a championship. I could see Holland entertaining the idea of moving Barrie for that 2022 2nd round pick, simply because that would free $4.5M in cap space before the UFA market opens. I suspect he'd want a young NHL player, under contract, in return for JP. It should go without saying that whomever that player is will have to provide more offense, without giving up too much in respect of Puljujarvi's strong underlying stats.

Do I care about Mittelstadt or Johnson? No. Does this trade net us a 1st plus for Dumba? Yup, and I'd take it. Getting a 1st for Dumba without having to retain, add, or take a bad contract would be a significant win in my eyes regardless of what other pieces we get (if any). If he could get us this value, I bet he would be gone the next day.
