Cutter Gauthier will go top 7 Marco Kasper doesn't get past Detroit at #8 no way he falls to #16.

Toronto isn't giving up a 1st to move Mrazek when they can just buy him out.

Marcus Pettersson @ 2,012,587 doesn't return no 2nd round pick Pettersson even @ 50% retention isn't that great.

Boston passes, Brandon Carlo gets a far better offer than Johnson a late 1st and potentially a late 2nd round pick.

The draft is too hard to predict, because none of us have a direct line to the top 14 gms and the experts are all over the place week to week, as I said if they go higher, that means someone's dropping.

TML fans should learn how to use the buyout button then

Pettersson is a pretty good dman, he's worth a late 2nd at 2 mill

This Carlo trade was the concensus earlier. Also Carlo isn't flashy, he's just a solid defender, this is about what Ristolainen got and there are GMs (not fans but NHL GMs) that would value them the same, don't know who would offer more or see a scenario where someone would

Interesting idea on the Pettersson retention. I don't think that he's the kind of LD we're looking for, and I don't think he's worth more than our better 2023 third, but you could easily be right.

Buyout, he is owned just 1,5 mil in real dollar. That's Arizona or Buffalo cap floor if needed. Then he can sign anywhere.

If the Oilers threaten him with a buyout that then he'd just retire at worst. And buyout saves them no money, its an empty threat. No chance he's traded to Buffalo.

Not that it will happen, wouldn't Boston automatically get a 2nd if Johnson doesn't sign by June next year, since he was a 1st.

I think if Buffalo could get deal from Edmonton for Hoffman (with retention) then Montreal just does it directly with the Oilers rather than sacrificing a third round pick for “future considerations”

Especially as they'll have cap space with Weber, Price and Byron most likely all on LTIR (they can go over the cap) and contracts going out the door like Petry and Drouin

If MTL wants to take on an additional 8 mill in cap. Thats the entirety of Webers cap hit +. Does Molson want to spend to the cap limit again (+well over in actual salary) to finish bottom 5 again?

Penguins trade makes no sense. The standard trade for Pettersson is a 3rd (Detroit fans don't seem to mind that idea when it shows up on the majority of ACGMs), the penguins don't need to shell out a 1st to get rid of Zucker's contract. I don't think the combination of Foegle and Mittelstadt are worth a 1st, either.

Also, getting Buffalo to the cap ceiling makes no sense like this. A lot of the money taken in will need to be traded away again when new contracts for its youth will need to be given in the next couple years. Thompson, Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, Cozens, Krebs, UPL, and that's just contracts in the next 2 years.

Oilers care about cap space, buying him out saves only 1 mil in cap space. Buying him out by a team that does not care about cap space costs only 1 mil dollars and carries 4,3 cap hit.
For Arizona, who will be looking to reach cap floor, mean they will spend 500k for 4,3k cap hit, meaning their cheapest team that would reach cap floor save 3,8 mil in real money.
Keith can retire, sign anywhere post buyout.

    1. Zucker's contract would cost at least a 2nd, Mittelstadt and Foegle could be moved for a 2nd+ each, even excluding Pettersson a 1st and a C level prospect is pretty even.
    2. This roster has 30 mill in cap space next year, plus an additional 20 mill the year after, their cap is fine.

No chance we give up out first and in the circumstances we do, it’s not gonna be in a trade package for an unproven Casey Mittelstadt

LOL Mittelstadt isnt bad, certainly wont tank a deal if he's a throw in, being hyperbolic about him discredits you. GMs in the league will take a chance on him

Yea and it’s not gonna be Ron Hextall out of all GM’s. Send him somewhere else. Also, we can trade Pettersson and Zucker separately without having to give up a FIRST round pick and taking in Casey Mittelstadt. This just isn’t happening.

I’m aware, but we can also just buy him out or send him somewhere else and pay for them to take on his contract. Not sure in ur case why we would go and spend our first round pick, which we haven’t had in years, to ship out Jason Zucker. At that rate, we will gladly keep Zucker and his 5m for one more year worst case scenario if it means throwing in a first (which if doesn’t) to trade him.

its a first to dump Zucker's salary, a center with 37 points in his last 60, and 30 point winger retained at 50%
