Is Monahan even gonna be able to handle 2C, still worried about those hips. And would never give up Asplund for Gudas, that pick should be plenty.

He missed about a month with a lower body injury.

Before you start with the “small fragile defenseman” narrative, Girard had the 2nd longest iron man streak for a defenseman in team history (231 games). Which only ended when he missed 2 games due to COVID. Dude is a machine.

Wasn't even gonna say anything, but since you brought it up. No seriously what gets the conversation started. 2 former 1st don't, what will just curious, and don't say Cozens or Krebs.

Ah, sorry misread where that was going then.

Mittelstadt is 23 and hasn’t been particularly productive in the NHL. Johnson is 20 and is rumored to be returning to college next year. His rights expire summer 2023. At this point, neither of those guys look like premium trade chips.

Meanwhile, Girard just turned 24 and already has 340 regular season games under his belt playing top minutes as a defenseman. In terms of point production, he’s put up comparable points to Mittelstadt and as a defenseman. And he’s signed for $5M until he’s 29. The price on a player like that can’t exclude Cozens or Krebs lol.

they kind of have to! no one wants Lucic or Monahan cap hit, and in a flat cap every team is cap strapped so the few teams that are willing to take them want ample compensation, and Calgary has to do this or the lose more than just Jonny Hockey.

Hill is better than anything you guys had last year save for Luukkonen. his numbers were decent playing behind a horrible Defense! Karlsson and Burns are fantastic offensive Defensemen but I barely consider them Defensemen. they aren’t even good defensive forwards to be honest lol.
Ferraro had a bad year but is a decent Defensemen and Middleton was good when he was there, beyond them we had the less than worthless shell of Vlasic, Megna Meloche, Simek who at best are 7/8th d on average or good teams and Merkley who has offensive upside but should not be in the NHL yet as he may be worse defensively than Burns or Karlsson. Give Hill an average D core and i would not be surprised to see him above 500 with a 2.5/2.6 GAA and 910+ save percentage. his only weakness is glovehand high but that can get better with work.

Why Johnson is a guaranteed 2nd rnd pick, even if his rights expired. Yeah really don't think those talks would go far if either of those guys were brought into it, maybe Krebs.

He's the type of player you keep, obviously very good Defensively and can move up and down lines.

Yeah exactly. Avs don’t have a reason to trade away a cost controlled top 4 defenseman for a mediocre depth forward whose developed stalled and 2 seconds. If a team actually wants a 24 year old defenseman to play 21+ minutes a night, they’ll actually need to give up assets with value. The best part of the return can’t be Casey Mittelstadt lmao

Yeah Sharks don't need another LD we have too many already. Will be 5 contracted and NHL level once Ferraro gets signed (Ferraro, Vlasic, Knyzhov, Simek, Megna) so Sharks actually need to move 1 this off-season

Calgary doesn't need to shed that much cap, and it's highly unlikely that either player waives to Buffalo

This is baseless, it's already been reported that there is a lot of interest in Monahan, and i think quite a few teams would be interested in what Lucic provides

yea who wouldn’t want to spend 6 mil for 8 goals or 5.8 mil for a slow power forward who scores 10/12 goals GMs always say stupid stuff like “there is a lot of interest in him” in order to up their value! sharks are doing the same with karlsson and no one wants him

Horrible take lol. If you truly think Monahan will be the same player he was this recent season go look up Vlad Tarasenko. Also it was top insiders like Frank Seravalli reporting the high interest in Monahan, not Treliving.

1 year of an enforcer who is only making 875K in actual money is a great deal for a team like Anaheim, Seattle, or Arizona. Just because your awful ex-GM has your rebuilding team perma cap-strapped for half a decade doesn't mean every other team is as well

terrible take as well on your part, 1st sharks went like 15 year as a legit cup contender and we’re paying the price for that now, mostly because of the desperation attempts at the end of our run to try and get that cup, every team after a long sustained run like ours has to reset and rebuild.
Lucic cap hit is the issue not his actual dollars and only 3-5 teams have the cap space to take him on and they are rebuilding and a 35 year old enforcer past his prime is not what they are looking for so he is a cap dump.
plus his NTC will keep him out of places like seattle or arizona.
and Monahan could recover, or not and that’s a risk that’s even more compounded with his bad hip and 6+ mil cap hit and salary.
the other problem is everyone in the NHL knows you need to shed cap to sign your FA & RFA this year.
act blind all you want you know i’m being logical here.
