NYI
  1. Girard, Samuel
Détails additionnels:
- We acquire Girard, who’d play our 2LHD spot for the next three years. Girard would be a solid guy to pair with Dobson as they both carry a similar skill set.
COL
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony
Détails additionnels:
- The Avalanche are going to have a very hard time to resign Nichushkin, Burakovsky AND Kadri so they move out Girard because Byram is ready for the 2LHD spot and bring in Beauvillier who is on a cheap-ish contract for the next two years but also has very good advanced analytics and would excel on the Avs.
2.
NYI
  1. Räty, Aku [Liste de réserve]
Détails additionnels:
- We dump Bailey’s 5M cap hit which he is not worth in order to make other key acquisitions to help them make the playoffs next year.

- We also acquire top prospect Aatu Raty’s Brother Aku. Those two could both start off in Bridgeport together and who knows, they could have some great chemistry.
ARI
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
- Yotes take on Josh Bailey and in exchange get a 2nd round pick. Bailey helps them reach the cap floor, provides good leadership to a young AZ team, and can provide some scoring on 5v5 and on the PP. If he does well you can trade him at 50% retained this deadline for postive assets.
3.
NYI
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (WSH)
WSH
  1. Varlamov, Semyon
Détails additionnels:
- Capitals acquire Varlamov who is a veteran goaltender that has a history of performing well in the playoffs, which is a need for them.

- Capitals probably move Vanecek this off-season so Varlamov would be a great mentor for Samsonov through their Russian connection and could hopefully help Sammy become a starting goaltender in the NHL.

- Isles offload Varlamov's 5M cap hit in order to find a cheaper backup goaltender because Sorokin is ready to handle 55-60 games so there isn't much of a need for Varly anymore.
4.
NYI
    Johnny Gaudreau (UFA Rights)

I saw this idea in another Isles AGM, and really liked the idea of it.

Let's say Gaudreau tells Calgary he won't be signing there, I think in that case, GMBT would like to get an asset for Gaudreau. But in that case there'll be a biding war for Gaudreau's UFA Rights, so I think it'll cost a 3rd to get them when it's all said and done.

The reason why to do this, rather than signing Gaudreau to a 11,000,000 x 7 contract in Free Agency, we are now able to sign him for 10,000,000 x 8. Saving 1M in cap space.

    7 x 11M = 77M
    8 x 10M = 80M

Gaudreau gets in total around the 80M range, which is what he seems to want, and we save 1M in cap space.

    5.
    NYI
    1. Nyquist, Gustav (2 750 000 $ retained)
    Détails additionnels:
    - Blue Jackets don't have room for Nyqvist as younger guys look to take his role on the team.

    - We acquire Nyqvist as a rental, he can chip in offensively and provide depth scoring while he can also hold his own defensively.

Some nice ideas, but I think that offer for Girard gets trumped by other teams, if hes available. Also, I was told that moving Barzal's best friend prior to re-signing Barzal was probably a no-go. That 3rd and 4th line is getting no younger either, I'd look to move someone and get a youngster in there

It's probably only a no-go if the Isles don't go out and land a massive improvement. If Gaudreau is on his left wing I think Barzal will get over it a lot faster lol

Its literally impossible for NYI to sign Gaudreau to an 8 year deal unless he signs in Calgary and is then traded. Its also highly unlikely he tells Calgary he won't sign there since he's already said he would love to sign long term woth the Flames

This is a good squad with well thought out explanations. I'd make a tweak here and there but overall if this was the squad next year I'd be thrilled

Stanley wasn't my ideal choice for the 3LHD spot but I needed to find someone cheaper for 1.4M and he seemed like the most reasonable option since he's young and big, but if he isn't NHL calibre I'm fine with trading Bellows for a pick and signing a cheap shutdown 3LHD in free agency.

Is Martin out longterm with injury? If so then maybe Johnston could fill that spot since he plays a similar game, and in that case I'd go and sign a depth forward cheaper than 1M to fill out the 13F/14F spot.

You can trade for his negotiating rights prior to UFA and the acquiring team gets the 8th year, no?

I think you could play Bellows LW3, Parise LW4 and make Martin the extra. Waive Johnston and sign a LD in FA on the cheap. (or just let Salo play LD3)

Yeah, I agree with you about Gaudreau. I'd honestly be pretty surprised if Calgary didn't bring him back, but a man can dream.

Nope, check the CBA. A player has to be on your roster before the previous seasons trade deadline

    This will look like

    Gaudreau-Barzal-Wahlstrom
    Lee-Nelson-Nyquist
    Bellows-Pageau-Palmieri
    Parise-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
    Koivula-Martin

I agree that this looks a lot better, I'll go and make these changes now

Salo has showed a lot more at the AHL and NHL than Bellows. I’d give him LD3.

Martin isn’t out with an injury, he’s just old , slow and ineffective. If the isles plan to make the playoffs he can’t be in the lineup

Late 1st or earlier second in a pure season long rental scenario. Have to factor in the cost for retaining as well. If it's a mid-second its probably a 3rd or 4th added for salary retention. We usually see that at the deadline so I'm not sure if the value changes for season long retention prices.

CBJ definitely don't have room but they really like what Nyquist brings off-ice, so it's possible they move someone else instead. He's helped Roslovic realize he needs to change his playstyle. Best case scenario is they package him with a prospect to create even more room to a contender that really needs it or wait and make him a TDL rental.

As a Jackets fan, we are hoping to find a way to get a late first for him with retention. I think an earlier second and 4th or mid-lower prospect probably a more realistic return than what we are hoping. Wouldn't be shocked to just get the second though. I do think Jake Bean would be a great fit there. Played terrible when he was forced to a RD position., but was respectable for when he got back to his natural side. I think Gus retained + Bean for a first and third or prospect would make a lot of sense for both teams.

Yeah I think a 2nd and 3rd or4th is fair. Hoping to get a late first but that will depend how he plays and what the rental market is like. I would be fine throwing in a 3rd if we get a first back.

He’s exactly the type of player the leafs were trying to get when they traded for foligno
