As much as I would like a real high pick, I don’t make that trade if in the Canucks.
The Canucks need lots of young assets, not just for future supporting players but with their cap situation they need multiple ECL’s and low value contracts contributing. I would rather take the 2-3 solid young assets they get for JT and keep their 1st.

NJ would rather keep their first too.

There set up the middle and Cooley or Slavkovsky would just be a bonus to a already dynamic forward group.

Also Miller plays better when he's the center on a line. And NJ has Hichier and Hughes.

Probably 8 milly for 7 or 8 years. On a 6 year deal probably closer to 9.

Miller is better as a winger imo. Maybe he scores more as a centre but defensively you will get better results from him on wing.

Imo Miller - Hughes - Bratt would be the best line in the Metro

This kills the Devils in 2026 when Mercer, Holtz, Luke Hughes and Gritsyuk (hopefully) are through their ELCs.
Gonna be one major cap casualty easily avoidable by not tying up 8m+ in an area Devils already are at their strongest.
Rather just have Cooley.

Pretty much everything and everyone I've heard off says he's better as a center.

NJ also can just get Cooley or Wright who likely ends up being better anyway and fits their core and age group. Not to mention it's an ELC as opposed to an 36 year old getting paid 8 million which it'll be on the last year of that deal.

I get what your saying but also consider that the NJD are one high end piece and a goalie away from contending. I’m not a NJD fan but honestly they could be first in the metro next year if they make the right additions.

If that’s the case, then who cares about 2026.

Just depends on what NJD management views for when their window should start.

Not sure where you’re getting that idea from on him being better at centre. Last year it was a narrative throughout vancouver that he was much worse at centre than o. The wing. However, due to petterssons injury last season he was forced to play C. This season, Pettersson got off to a rocky start so Miller once again played C. He was much better this year and is clearly comfortable there.

However, his best season with Vancouver is the 2019-2020 season when he played LW. Even though he didn’t scored at the same pace as this season, he was better as a 2-way player and overall provided more value. He would still take faceoffs for Pettersson that season since he is very good at them, but during play petey was C and miller LW

I think adding a combination of one of Nichushkin, Copp or Marchment along with Husso, Kuemper or Campbell achieves all of that.
Point is I don't want to lose the #2 pick to trade for short term gain when you can find it in FA.

And, well, I care about the future.
I want this core to remain intact for as long as possible.
I don't want to run the risk of losing someone like Sharangovich, Siegenthaler or Mercer just because Devils need to deal with an declining and immovable 33 year old JT Miller making 8m+.

Yup fair enough. It really depends on point of view and certainly as fans we will almost always prefer the long term benefits over the short term. If Devils management sees it the same way then definitely they don’t do this trade.
