Chychurn trade is horrible for the Avs… just go for Provorov, same all round player statistically and advanced stats look pretty much the same as well, but could get him for much cheaper

The trade with the Sabres is one of the worst I’ve seen on here
And that’s saying something- especially since u aren’t even a MTL fan 🤣🤣🤣

Just bc u guys were dumb & overpaid for Lehkonen, that doesn’t mean the Sabres (or anyone else) also will make that mistake

He’s a fine player, but we’d have no interest

@Thunderbird838 Please explain why you think Buffalo would want to get an older and smaller forward, but more important give up a first and second to do this?
Casey Mittelstadt (Height 6.01 -- Weight 195) 23 yo 195 gms 33 (14g/82gms) 47 80 (34 pts/82gms)
Artturi Lehkonen (Height 5.11 -- Weight 179) 26 yo 412 gms 80 (16 g/82gms) 78 158 (31 pts/82gms)

At 26 Artturi is what he is, at 23 Casey WILL get better!

The Arizona trade is hilariously bad. Byram is on an ELC and already contributing at a high level. He will be cheaper than Chychrun for the foreseeable future and it’s not a stretch to say he’s likely to be a better player long term. 1 for 1, I wouldn’t do it. Add in all of those other assets and ???

I’ve said if a bunch of times on here, but the Avs are not a good landing spot for Chychrun. Already there’s enough defensive depth. If you acquire Chychrun, he won’t get top pairing minutes (those are Makar and Toews) and he will be fighting for second pairing minutes with Girard and Byram. He also won’t touch the power play and pretty much would have to become a PK specialist. That’s a waste of a player like Chychrun.

Maybe I’m out of the loop, but hasn’t Mittelstadt been pretty disappointing? I haven’t watched the Sabres in a while so I don’t know his game well.

so your condition is if daws plays well enough to start more games NJD have to give you an even better draft pick? so if he crashes and burns over there you keep the lower pick. this makes no sense.

No reason for the Devils to give up Daws for a stopgap in net.
Besides, Francouz being so prone to injury would just give the Devils the same problems they had with Bernier this year.
Rather just try and trade Zacha or Tatar for Vanecek or smthn

No, he is just as ****ty as Lehkonen. Not sure how you think you're getting a 1st, 2nd, and a player with higher upside and is 4 years younger for a guy who has a career high 37 points.

Yeah I don’t have any thoughts on this trade, was just curious.

Lehkonen has been dope for the Avs though.

He will be paying the at the level he was in Montreal for the sabres.

Mittelstadt had 19 points in 40 games, was outpacing Lehkonen while playing the beginning of the season hurt.

Lehkonen has been lights out for Colorado and is an analytics darling. The Athletic’s model has his market value as $5.7M and Mittelstadt as a $2.8M. I’m not gonna comment on the specific value of the trade, but positioning Mittelstadt as a clear upgrade over the two is a little disingenuous.

Also, Mittelstadt is 23 but he also has almost 200 NHL games. He might still have some growth in his game, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for a major breakout. Gone are the days of forwards baking in the AHL until they’re 24.

All of that is to say that there’s clearly something off in the water in Buffalo with player development, so if he has a nonlinear path then I guess I’ve seen crazier things.

Thank you for the information from the Athletic.
I highlighted your comment, please read mine and tell me where I said that!
Let me requote what I said: "Please explain why you think Buffalo would want to get an older and smaller forward, but more important give up a first and second to do this?"

Second, Casey was injured most of this season and I am certain that his play was severely impacted when he was on the ice.
While a small sample, after Krueger was finally relieved of his duties, Casey demonstrated his ceiling over the final 23 games scoring 9 goals and 17 pts.
He did this with Rasmus Asplund as his primary LW and Tage Thompson as his RW.
Up to this year no one would have thought of either of them as dynamic offensive powers.
IMO you can write off Casey's first 132 NHL as he was pushed into action too early or was handcuffed by Krueger.
While the Athletic may have their reasons for predicting Lehkonen at $5.7 you can circle back in 6 months and laugh at me, but if he tops $3,000,000 I will be shocked.

So I will repeat, where did I say Casey was an upgrade?
Clearly the difference between the two of them is not the 16th OA and a second next year.
That is exactly what I said and I used data to support my POV.

I will close, please do not accuse me of writing something I clearly did not!

You said: “Please explain why you think Buffalo would want to get an older and smaller forward” and then posted the stat lines and the players measurements. I specified that I’m not commenting getting into whether I think the difference between the two is 2 high round picks (hint: it’s not), but that the data you’re using (box scores, age, weight) is an overly simplified way to look at a player’s impact on the game.

Disappointing in the way that we’d have liked him to be further along on his development
But a big reason for that is he’s been plagued by injuries

He’s been good when healthy,
so no reason to give up on a guy with his ceiling
Especially for a 3rd liner
