Description
Chicago has been holding their cards close to the chest. I would assume they are more interested in taking on draft capital over players.

If they take some Cap/older players for futures. Reverse Teuvo

Try to move young D for Young F

Not all of these trades will work, just ideas.

Leafs definitely decline, kerfoot is not a dump and abruzzese is a good prospect who is cheap for us to fill in on the fourth line when needed. If you want kerfoot you'd have to pay better than that.

CHI
Ostapchuk, Zack
Murray, Matt
2022 2nd round pick (TBL)
OTT
Kubalik, Dominik [RFA Rights]
Murphy, Connor
2022 3rd round pick (TOR)

There’s no reason for Ottawa to do this deal. Connor Murphy is coming off a two concussion season, the second he had to be taken off on a stretcher, and Kubalik is just another bottom6 left shot winger, which Ottawa has plenty of, including Parker Kelly, the guy who hit Murphy for that second concussion.

Matt Murray also has concussion issues, but if he’s fine, he’ll play well, and if he’s not, they’ll put him on IR and let insurance pay his salary, or LTIR him if they need the cap space.

Ottawa isn’t giving up a decent prospect like Ostapchuk, and lose on a pick swap, for these players.

Kerfoot is still a solid player, sure not a cap dump, But Toronto has to change something.. Nosek has some grit and isnt a liability, Borgstrom could fit with the high flying offense.

Knies will play over Abruzze? hes expendable.

If Connor Murphy is hurt it obviously changes things.
BUT
Like you said Ottawa has lots of forwards.. move on from a prospect for a top 4 d man

Knies won't be signed until the end of college season, which gives abruzzese a nearly full season to bring up his value more.

I'm not saying Nosek or borgstrom aren't decent options, but for kerfoots price, his productivity and PK ability is valued higher than what is received here.

Fair Enough.

I was looking at having appropriate players in appropriate roles. Young offensive player could fit in the bottom 6, but having a veteran with some grit while still getting a relatively young forward in return.
Stan Bowman called Borgstrom the best college player he has ever seen.. But I see what you are saying.

That is not enough for Kubalik and Murphy. Murray is a cap dump. Probably serviceable as a punching bag for a couple years while our goalie prospects are developing, but not a player with any sort of positive trade value. In fact, he very much has negative trade value.

His positive value is that he is awful and Chicago gets a better draft pick next year. I very much like Ostapchuk

This is a home run for Ottawa. Kubalik and a 3rd for Ostachuk and a second is a bit high of a price to pay for Ottawa considering the rumours about Chicago not qualifying him, but Murphy's contract is not near as bad as Murray's. Murphy has positive trade value. Murray on the other hand, not even close.

I'm another Sens fan who'd be interested in this deal but Murphy's concussion issues are a concern

What would be the price for Patrick Kane? No retention

Tkachuk - Norris - Kane
Formenton - Stutzle - Batherson

I wouldn't mind that Top-6

I suggest to not acquire him then. When healthy, he can still go long stretches with a 0.930 SV%, stealing games left and right. Nobody is trading for him anyway, he has probably been the most injury prone NHL player during the last 4 seasons

Chicago needs Forwards, a Kane deal might start with a Batherson or a Norris. Two fan favourites but it takes assets to get assets

For sure. I like Ostapchuk too. But he doesn't make up for Murray's negative value AND CHI sending them a 3rd on top of it. Even without the 3rd going to OTT it isn't enough.

Maybe you are right.

This post was intended to make Chicago worse in the short term. Hopefully hit big with a prospect or two while opening a spot on the blue line

Don't like the OTT deal at all. Flames would be reluctant to part with Pelletier so I don't see that happening and the 3 team deal doesn't do a huge amount for CHI other than improve their chances of a better pick in this years draft.

You want better prospects? or take on different cap dumps?

The idea of this post was to be worse this year, a top 5 pick in next years draft would be huge.

Calgary needs to move cap, I sent a replacement centre and I didn’t even ask for their top prospect.

Sure the three way trade is a lot of moving around and I burn both retention slots. I just like the idea of taking cap, retaining and then flipping that same guy.

Murphy costs a 1st + , though obviously the higher that pick is the less the + becomes or can be completely negated.
Kubalik, the cost would vary though I think for his rights a mid-late 3rd probably gets it done.
The addition of the 3rd is completely irrelevant as Murray is going to cost at least that 2nd to move.
Concluding I would think The package would need to be constructed differently. Preference would be for no cap dumps in any Murphy deal and he's not being shopped as such.

Yes, we got the 6th worst record this year, I don't see that improving.

Who would you suggest is Calgary's top prospect? Pelletier could be argued as being the top although Coronato could now be.

Just feels like CHI is having to do a lot of the legwork and then do the retention. When thinking about flipping those acquired assets, the value comes in retaining salary at the TDL also.

Batherson 7OA?

Batherson + 7OA for Kane?

That would be turned down right away, even without the 7th OA pick. Kane is a legend but that move would hurt the Sens deeply. Kane turns on 34 y/o at the beginning of next season, makes 10.5 M$ and is UFA at the end of the campaign. Batherson just turned 24 y/o and is signed 5 more years under 5 M$ a season...

Norris was on pace for 43 goals this season and is already pretty good 2-way center at 22 y/o. Same story, Ottawa doesn't even consider

Didn't know the price expectation would be that much for Kane, so I'd be looking somewhere else. So far what interests me the most is Wild fans proposal : Fiala for 7th OA + Jarventie
