The Chiarot rule is in full effect and people on here need to realize a few things when trading someone like Dumoulin:

1) Battled injuries all season and still had underlying stats of a decent top-four dman. Just a down year for him.
xGF% - 50.99
SCF% - 51.07
HDCF% - 51.69
HDGF% - 55.71
On ice SV% - 93.14

This is all while battling a foot injury for over half the season and in the playoffs, so when you point a few rough plays he made in the playoffs remember that he was still a highly effective dman playing with a bum foot.

2) Despite you thinking he's not worth a 2nd or more, the Chiarot trade proves that it doesn't matter what you or I think, teams will value him highly.

3) He's not necessarily a rental. He's the perfect vet for a team on the rise to extend after signing.

So, while YOU may not want to give up much for him, other GM's will clearly disagree with you. He's a veteran dman with a history of winning. While I don't think he nets a 1st or anything like that, he's not going to be had for peanuts.
