That return for Nylander alone is insulting

Habs fan told me the other day Jeff Petry is a Norris quality defenseman.

By THAT standard he’s the most overrated then lol.

Problem is there's no guarantee these UFA goalies will sign with Detroit and we're not exactly a prime destination for players right now. We're already searching for a backup goalie and trading our starter would be foolish. It only makes sense if we want to tank for Bedard next season.

If the goaltenders where willing to make it work, how would you feel about a Ned + Soup tandem with each getting paid 5m more or less? Not necessarily now, but whenever they decide to compete.

Campbell is going to want a retirement contract. It's his one big chance of getting a big payday. Yzerman is just buying time for Cossa and Ned only has a year left on his contract. Campbell will want 4-5 years. His agent is Kurt Overhardt and he doesn't do discounts. Larkin recently dumped him to go with Pat Brisson.

Yzerman will just go with a cheap UFA goalie or trade for one where he isn't giving up much.

How close is Cossa? Ned is still young enough to take a 5mx3 I think. If Cossa is 2 years away still, then his ELC will end when Campbell's contract does if he signs a 5 year deal. As long they both don't drop off, they probably won't be put into a uncomfortable position.

It would make more sense though, to stay course, but I think I read somewhere that Yzerman might want to get someone that would start pushing them towards contending (I'm assuming that meant an impact forward).

Yzerman has to be careful here. He wants to compete but not at the expense of ruining the rebuild. There's no need to fast track like Buffalo did a few years back. He's basically been stop gap Stevie. Cleaning up Holland's mess.

Cossa is going to play in Grand Rapids next season. Stevie won't rush him. I'd say minimum 2 years but maybe 3 years. Don't want to rush him like the Flyers did with Carter Hart.

I agree he does need to be careful not to rush it, I don't think he should try to tank for Bedard or anyone since he probably won't get low enough. I was thinking along the lines of if he does want to make a slight push, the best place to do it is in the crease without having to pay some forward or defender who might also take up valuable minutes that might impede the younger players development.

Hronek is the most overrated player on this site.

A statement that is totally subjective do you have anything to back up that statement?

Completely subjective. Nothing to back it up expect for the fact that I see a crazy amount of Detroit fans trading him for a kings ransom. Feel free to disagree with me.

Ned requested the trade to Detroit because his fiancé and her family live in the area. With Hronek Detroit needs the RHD more than another winger and they have no one to replace him. That being said why would Toronto even offer this trade? Nylander has more talent than the 2 Detroit players, Do I don't see either team making the trade Detroit because it leaves them with more holes than before and Toronto because Nylander they can easily get more from another team that needs a winger,

A few years ago I would've agreed but in todays NHL you almost need a 5th player to join the rush to score consistently. So production is something that needs to be considered when valuing defenseman in my opinion. I don't think his trade value is that high based on his play alone. But since Detroit has no replacement for him and quite a few teams are looking for an RHD that can produce like Hronek that is going to bring his value up some. Personally I don't think Detroit can or should trade him until they have a suitable replacement signed. But most of that is subjective as well.

Ya, I agree to an extent. I don’t think Detroit should trade him. I just see him being traded for like Nylander or someone/ something similar and he does not have that kind value.
