Description
https://awinninghabit.com/2022/05/23/montreal-canadiens-five-bad-contracts-acquire-alongside-1st-round-draft-pick/

Although the Canadiens have cap issues of their own, there was an article put out a few days ago suggesting that the HABS could fetch a 1st rd. pick (or multiple) by helping cap strapped teams. I decided to use the JVR suggestion and added another of my own with MIN.

Also added in the rumor of the habs looking into acquiring Dach
https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-rumors-could-the-boston-bruins-montreal-canadiens-look-at-kirby-dach/2022/05/27/

and trading Dvorak before his NTC quicks in.

if the MIN and PHI trades actually happened I would expect a package to NJD including the two newly acquired 1st round picks for 2OA

Sorry but that Minnesota trade is laughable, they can get a good return for Dumba without adding a 1st round pick.

Arizona aren't giving you picks for Weber's contract. And definitely not our own 2nd. If you want to trade his contract, you'll have to give us a 2nd or other picks.

We don't have a spot for Drouin in our top 9, even if the Wild move on from Fiala the organization believes (based on Guerin's comments) that Rossi would take his spot in the top 6. So we're moving a player that plays top pairing minutes for us AND a 1st for a guy who would be on our 4th line and a 2nd? Makes no sense for us

-I can't see Chicago trading a recent 3OA pick who's still just 21 years old for a cap dump, a mid tier prospect that's actually a year older than Dach, and a late 1st.

-You *might* get Dumba for Drouin retained & the Edmonton 2nd; you're going to have to add a lot to get their 1st. They can get a dozen better offers if they made Dumba available for trade.

-Weber to Arizona makes sense, I just think 34 OA is too rich a price to pay for the Coyotes. Set your sights lower.

-I can't see Philadelphia unloading a top 5 pick just to get 1 year of JVR off their books. He rebounded enough to put in 24 goals this season so he's still somewhat useful, and he's only being paid $5M against a $7M cap hit. I could see a cap floor team just absorbing his deal for a 3rd/4th rounder, or the Flyers just keep him and flip him out with 50% retention at the deadline. Unless the Flyers are going to be completely unrealistic, I think they realize they need at least a retool and trading a top 5 pick would be lunacy when they don't *need* to clear that cap space.

-The Rangers, however, do need to be mindful of their cap constraints this summer and even though this is an overpay, I think they look to re-sign Ryan Strome or Andrew Copp before they downgrade to Dvorak.

-Somehow this is worse than the Philly trade? You've now taken the 5th overall pick and Jeff Petry and sent them both to Dallas for an okay-to-good prospect and a 36 year old goalie coming off hip surgery that, in the best case scenario, has him back and moving around in late September.

I take this deal everyday of the week and try to flip the pick or a lesser pick/prospect to get retention on Dvorak. TDL adding a Pavelski if DAL is out and moving Dvorak to 3C and Chytil to wing

I’m going to start using this trade as a part of future ACGM

I can definitely see why it's worth taking but I don't think it's a slam dunk. Dvorak is significantly less productive than what Strome has done the last few seasons, or what Copp did after coming over at the deadline. He's cheaper, sure, but you're probably playing him at 2C on opening night if you keep him because if you acquire him, you're still looking at only have 9 forwards, 5 D, and 1 goalie signed for next season and $8M in cap space to fill out those margins.

CHI trade is based on Chicago GM own words stating that he'd like to get a first AND that they would consider moving Dach.
For a 1st, prospect, and proven scorer roster player - that's as good as CHI will get....

The MIN trade is completely based on the fact that Guerin himself has mentioned needing to clear cap space and DOESN'T mind parting with his 1st rd draft pick in order to do so.
Dumba is 6M worth that can REALLY help the wild if off the books to sign Fiala.
Adding in Drouin with salary retention is to allow the wild to remain competitive on ice at a lower cost.

PHI trade is also rumoured speculation that the Flyers would like to go in on Gaudreau (and Gaudrea as well being from South Jersey) to bring him home.
In order for this to happen, cap space needs to be cleared for them and JVR is the first logical choice at 7 MIL/year (1 year remaining). Which can go to signing Johny Hockey.

ARI trade for Weber for a 2nd has been overly reported on since before TDL and conitnues.

What else y'all got? that you think you're more informed and knowledgeable than HOCKEY WRITERS?

let's get something straight.
"WE" / Habs, dont have to move Webers contract AT ALL.
Its off the books once the season starts in LTIR.
And the Habs can well afford to pay the penalty for being over the cap on day 1 until he goes on LTIR.

Habs are doing ARI a favour....nto the other way around.
That's why there's a second involved.

They could easily trade Dumba for some decent draft picks, they'd be better off to just trade him for a 2nd round pick if that was the best offer they got then to do this.

For sure some team would acquire Dumba without having to send cap back, if the Wild are trading Dumba and their 1st in the same trade it should return them something better than this.

These comments aren't from Habs haters, your trades suggested here are just bad and miss the mark by a lot.

I'd rather have Greenway. But what's your point? Greenway isn't moved here. Drouin would drive Dean insane anyways, honestly I think he'd healthy scratch him.

Fiala is as good as gone. Our top 6 projects to be
Kaprizov - Hartman - Zucc
Boldy - Rossi - Gaudreau

You really aren't doing us any favors here. You took away our top pairing defenseman, gave us a player Dean probably wouldn't even play, and downgraded our 1st to a 2nd. How does that help us?

This was a roller coaster ride!

Getting a 1st from Minnesota for Drouin then giving away said 1st to the Rags for Kravtsov. I'm exhausted. Oh. Then, you paid a 1st and Petry for a middling prospect in Ty Dellandrea. Ok. I'm beat.

He also had a total of 5 power play points in 56 games despite getting 2:23 per game with the man advantage.

I'm not sayin Dvorak is terrible, just that he's a low-end 2C and I'm not sure if the Rangers would want that. -HOWEVER- I will admit I spaced out and my brain had the deal as Kravstov/1st for Dvorak. If it's Kravstov for Dvorak *and* a 1st? That's a yes from the Rags 8 days a week - they can figure out what to do with Dvorak later.

ARI trade for Weber for a 2nd has been overly reported on since before TDL and conitnues.

What else y'all got? that you think you're more informed and knowledgeable than HOCKEY WRITERS?

you literally have Philadelphia giving up the 5th overall pick to shed one year of JVR's salary. that's so out of whack with every cap dump we've seen over the past three years, there's a zero percent chance they would do that.

let's get something straight.

It is appealing for Arizona. That's why a deal was agreed, but nixed at the TDL. So we got Bryan Little instead. In which we got an asset, while also giving up a lesser asset. Even if Weber's contract is appealing to Arizona, that only applies for the first years. It's still a multi-year problem. We aren't giving up a high pick for that. Maybe a low pick, if anything. Also, it isn't a need anymore after we got Little. We still need to fill out the roster. That we can do with FA signings and/or trades (for example more cap dumps). We didn't tank this hard to give up our high picks. I see where you are coming from, but the price (if positive) will be lower.
