Sabres pass. Dumba is not in long term plans, would demand huge extension right away. No need to pay for rental on team, that is not ready yet.

A year ago I would have probably jumped on a trade for Dumba. But with the way are top4 finished I would want someone better than Dumba if Adams does decide to change out Joker.

I could see KA swinging this if he wanted a vet rd to pair with Power.

The problem with trading Dumba isn't in next season, it's the two after that. For 2023-24, for example, you have just 11,7 million to sign:
- a 1G - about 4-5 million
- 2 defensemen, one of them being Addison - at least
3 million combined
- Boldy - 5-6 million if bridged
- Duhaime, Jost - at minimum 2,5-3,5 million combined
- 1 or 2 depth pieces - a few league minimum deals
That brings us to about about 15-19 million needed. Who are we cutting then? It must be Zuccarello for starters. Maybe others, as well. And boy, would that sting.

And all that's if Fiala actually takes that 7,5 million deal, which I very much doubt.

Trading Dumba and giving Fiala a new, hefty contract screws our cap way too much. It's a lot easier to swallow the pill now and trade Fiala (whose value is a lot higher than Dumba's) than to try and risk losing more valuable players later. This has everything to do with trading Dumba.

Hard to see either Adams or moreso Granato abandoning Jokiharju - both loved his play alongside Power so I think the quest now is more of a 3rd pairing veteran for depth and upgrade over Pysyk, who'll likely re-sign as a 7th D. Given that goal, I can't see them taking on a $6M rental like Dumba - and from what Guerin said about Dumba at his EOY interviews, it seems highly unlikely he'll want to trade him anyway.....according to Russo, Guerin loves Dumba so the Wild's cap issues will most likely make Fiala the casualty, who Guerin seemed to dismiss for his playoff no-show.

Depending on whether or not Fleury accepts a pay cut to re-sign with Wild like Guerin hopes for, Talbot may be the one who's dealt for added cap relief and to eliminate the discord between Evason and him during the playoffs. If that happens, expect the Sabres to be interested in Talbot.

Yes, Talbot wouldn't surprise me and agree on Dumba. Wouldn't surprise me to see a Gubs Lyubushkin Ruutu type signed for 3rd pair.

Signing Fiala will cost you a lot more than what Dumba is making. We can't fit Fiala's 8 million or so under the cap. Trading Dumba solves that issue for next season but after that it's going to become impossible to mavigate the cap. We should just trade Fiala now rather than try to keep him

But 2nd and 4th for rental is a no no.
Extending Dumba right away for something like 5x6 mil is also not smart.

Geurin has already voiced how he feels about this situation, now as much as I think it’s better to keep Fiala and get rid of Dumba for the long run it seems that will never happen because of how Geurin feels especially about Fiala’s season saying "He only had 3 good months"

It pains me to say yes we trade Fiala but his value is at a high point. Trading dumba or fiala though doesn’t solve the cap. This team is going to have to rely heavily on these prospects to hit. After this next year I think the dead cap jumps to $14+ million. Not a lot of cap to hand out a huge contract to Fiala and I’d say if dumba even wants back I feel he’s going to have to take a lot less than his $6million. Personally I wouldn’t mind sending both out and paving the way for Addison to make the jump and then bringing Rossi up and maybe playing Rossi, jost and boldy on line 2. Line 3 stays the same, line 4 could be a combo of say dewar, duheim, and maybe a center down in our AHL or someone we maybe got back from the trades. Dmen would be Spurg, and then Middleton when they resign him. Addison and Brodin, Kulikov and merril with goligoski working in. Sorry I’m bad at spelling names but I guess in all we’re going to look at staying somewhat competitive but preparing prospects for the first year that the cap penalties are down to almost nothing. I think this team will still be decent and fighting for a wild card chance but we gotta face reality that we have no cap to try make moves to get higher dollar players in to win. Gotta win with what we have. Gonna be interesting for sure!

Everything @Ecce said about contracts. Also, Middleton will get 3M this year not the 1.2M you've signed him for. I don't think the math works with just trading Dumba to get Fiala. We'd have to cut more.

With the Hawks re-building and the Sabres likely only to bring back Pysyk as their lone veteran over 22, I still think there's some potential of Granato encouraging a move for one of his former players, Connor Murphy. He fits the bill with a reasonable contract($4.4Mx4), leadership traits, physicality and a more stay-at-home type that can be interchangably mixed in with any of the 3 offensive-minded LHDs in Dahlin, Power and Bryson. Only question is if the Hawks expect a fortune in return - if they want to go young, some picks (albeit not a 1st rounder) and a prospect like Johnson or Laaksonen might be reasonable.

I would not mind him, Murphy would be a solid addition.
